Morebeer's new bottom drain brew kettles

The jacket isn't for glycol, it's for tap water. Whether it's effective or not remains to be seen. BrewHa's BIAC system chills the same way. I believe the premise is that it's good enough to get wort to 100F where you can move it to your CF for glycol to take over (much more effectively).

Morebeer's new bottom drain brew kettles

The slingblade elements have been setup like that for years and it tracks with what Blichmann does with the boil coils. Sure, more power is more better. When I build systems with slingblades, I cheat a bit and cram the next size up into the pots, e.g. the 5000 goes into the 15 with a little...

    Blichmann Brewcommander question

Right on the front screen you can enter target temperatures and/or output power.

do all roads lead to hazies.

I got wrapped up in the haze craze when it was novel. Now I don't seek them out at all unless you consider Fiddlehead a hazy. I only brew them occasionally to stay sharp on the process. I'm not going to call it a fad in the larger market but it was a fad for me, just like Thiols and Gose. I'm...

Morebeer's new bottom drain brew kettles

I'll be doing some evaluating on them soon.

Black sooty smoke from jet gas burner

There really should be nothing under or around that burner. See how it burns... I'm curious why you're not ready to upgrade the brewery to electric? Budget would be the only valid reason.

Help with mash schedule for high starch beer

This is one of those situations where OP will likely have to do the thing planned and learn about it that way. Light can mean "pale in color" or "dry and easy drinking", aka light in body and low in dextrines. Mouthfeel (weight)...

    Homebrew Taste

Ok, the interior of 2 row pale and Munich, prior to mashing, is primarily starch. In a finished beer, I'd describe it as grainy, doughy. If you're hitting the expected OG, I wouldn't worry about unconverted starch. There is a strong possibility of mash pH lifting grainy flavors if it's a light...

    Homebrew Taste

The inside of the grain would be starch. I'm not sure how you can differentiate whether you're tasting husks or starch when you're chewing on both. Everything above is true unless you're talking about crystal malts. Can you be more specific about the types of grain you've used/chewed?

Learning: Split Batch w/ different yeast?

99% of my batches are split like this. The sky is the limit on approach. 1. Liquid style-appropriate strain compared to the purported equivalent dry yeast. 2. One style-appropriate strain (typical usage) compared to a completely different region. That's like an American Pale Ale fermented with...

    Homebrew Taste

Chewing on dry malted grains would be described as "husky" or "grainy" in my opinion. If your beer tastes like that at all, it's likely due to a high mash pH where some of the compounds in the grain husks are being liberated into the water.

Black sooty smoke from jet gas burner

I had those burners on my 3 vessel rig for about 5 years and they NEVER burned right consistently. They have to be spaced away from the bottom of your vessels by at least 8", more is better. They cannot be significantly shrouded with either a heat shield or wind shield because oxygen needs to...

    Cold Crash Guardian

Yeah, the depth of the universal can be a problem. You can just run a piece of the tubing through the hole. You can also use a standard drilled #10 stopper.

Is there a way to remove a hop bong without exposing wort to air?

Once dry hopped, that beer can be transferred to a serving keg within a couple days. The other alternative has been mentioned, double the parts all the way up to the butterfly.

    CO2 cylinders

First establish where you will get the gas and if they fill or exchange. Ask them what size tanks they deal with. THEN buy a tank. 5 is more mobile, 20 is way more economical.

Black sooty smoke from jet gas burner

I have a lot of experience with these burners in the past. They are essentially wok burners which are either on or off and when they're on they are extremely high BTU. They are expecting a certain velocity of gas through the orifice on each of the burner tips so that they can draw in the...

    Auber cube run 120v element?

It should work in either of two ways. 120V input to the whole controller. 5-20P cable to an L14-30R connector. I'm going by memory here, but black goes to L1, Ground to ground, Neutral goes to Neutral AND to the L2 (jumped inside the L14-30R connector. That supplies neutral to both the pump...

    Introducing flavors to roasted coffee

drizzle natural hazelnut extract onto the beans as they're cooling, stir well. You could also buy some roasted and ground hazelnuts and put a spoonful over your coffee grinds before doing a pourover, but I don't think it will have the same impact.

morebeer increased their free shipping threshold

Here's an idea that maybe you didn't think of. Tell the LHBS that they're losing your business due to the price. It's not your job to tell them their business but if you're willing to open up a dialogue with them, they might be receptive. You know what they pay per sack because it's the same...

    Cold Crash Guardian

We've discontinued the check valve. Its only purpose was to stop starsan from getting sucked back in the rare case where the user left the cold crashed vessel sitting around for way too long. What I really didn't like about it was that at the discount price points, the PRVs had inconsistent...
