    Word to the Wise...(with photo)...

My wife is from Sweden and she has these very nice thick knitted oven mitts that her great grandmother made. They are sweet and she lets me use them for brewing. She said that her grandmother probably wouldn't mind b/c they make their own vodka in Sweden at home. Beer is nothing. I love my...

Beersmith is kicking out 2 rounds of batch sparge?

Yeah, I don't get that too. The second sparge is like 1.63 gallons and then a bigger one. Doesn't make sense... ~Diz

    Friends paying for beer?!

I have hosted a few homebrew happy hours and never had anyone turn me down. Just ask they bring some munchies and if they like it, I could brew them some more and give out a recipe list. I love the hobby, and won't mind brewing an extra batch...ahem..keeping a few for myself.

Bottled a wee heavy yesterday and almost fainted

Done the same thing. Burned burned burned. Drink, don't sniff. Sniffing is so 80's. ~Diz

I am not intimidated by all-grain!

YOU are a go getter. I thought I would hang with extract in our good sized condo and call it that. NOT. Learning watching more brought me to all grain over a year. You did it in one night. Watch the threads, read, convert a cooler and you will be good. Enjoy great beers! ~Diz

Long day, first all grain, not happy

I am newer to the AG game, and it has worked good for me so far. I am going to prempt other brewers here by saying... recipe, equipment and everything we need to know to help a successful brew next Saturday. Chin up, all will be well. If I don't make great beer, there is an aisle...

    Aerate the Wort!

I just pour from the kettle to the fermenter back and forth and pitch. Works like a charm. Haven't quite bought in to the stone deal and O2 tank. I have enough going on already. ~Diz

    braided hose or plastic manifold?????

Same here. I have a longer braid, it stayed on the bottom and I even did a wheat for the first brew (I wanted to encounter a stuck sparge 1st off) and everything worked great. ~Diz

    First AG....I think I won....kinda...

It looks like I was at 61%.......I didn't have a bunch of patience during the sparge. Will go slower next time. It will still be beer though right? ~Diz

I have an AG Kolsch on tap (wishful thinking) for this Friday. Should be the start of a good weekend. ~Diz

    First AG....I think I won....kinda...

First of all, thx to everyone here that is seemingly on call (for their calling) 247. Without everyone's help I wouldn't have even attempted todays first AG. I have been brewing extract w/ steeping grains for about a year. Had some great brews but have always wanted to take it to the AG...

    Beersmith strike water temp right?

I am just about to do my first all grain and I don't want to screw this up from the strike water onwards. I am doing the AHB Platinum Bavarian Weizen. 5.5 lbs of German Pils 4 lbs Red Wheat The recipe says that 150f for 60mins iis optimal. Beersmith is giving me 11.875 quarts @...

The greatest beer of all time...

Exactly, but they wouldn't have the distribution, a huge brewery in Woodinville and in N.H. w/o AB/InBev. ~Diz

    Overall technique......mash dry? Then sparge?

I swear I have over a year watching, anticipating an AG brew. Tomorrow is my first. I am hooked up with beersmith and am doing a great brew from AHB. Once conversion has happened, and then vorlaufing....do I let that run basically "dry" until I carefully pour the sparge water in and...

The greatest beer of all time...

Yeah, they are owned by AB or InBev or whatever. I jog past their first brewery every night in Seattle (Fremont). I was working for my brothers glass company when we got a call late on Fri that they had a broken window. We went and they were nice enough to give us a half rack of brew to...

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

I just built this up and thx for the instructions. For anyone in/around Seattle I didn't find the SS washer at West Marine but at Fisheries Supply by gasworks they had them and up to 3/4. .43 cents. Now waiting on my order from AHB and we can get this AG party started!!! ~Diz
