Confused - LME vs Kits vs ??

You just steep grains like a big tea bag, then remove the grains and get the water boiling. Then throw in some hops and stir in some extract. Then throw in some more hops and maybe stir in some more extract and thats basically it. Throw in the yeast and wait a few weeks for beer.

Can’t make up my mind about priming technique! Help!?!

I have the coopers equipment kit too and I can tell you how I've expanded is pretty much the same as you're being advised. My first batch I bottled with the fermenter spigot and all the coopers stuff and it worked out fine. I didnt get too much of any sediment in my bottles at all, even tipping...

Online store keeping me on edge

It's ok with me if lots of people disagree. I've long ago stated all I need to here, but I'll just say again that I do have tons of customer relations experience, including a decade of retail management. And "sorry for the inconvenience" is *not* an apology. I understand we disagree on that so...

How long can you perform secondary fermentation?

I heat a cup of water and put in my priming sugar, stir it until dissolved, simmering boil for 10 minutes. Then let it cool or chill it to room temp. I start the siphon into the bottling bucket so it swirls nicely. When there's a couple of inches of beer in there, I carefully pour the priming...

    water question

I would have rain barrels out there collecting some water I think. I wouldnt overlook it at least. Especially for the garden, it's great stuff. I have decent tap water, but also an RO filter. I do 3 gallon boils with tap water, and top up with RO. Which seems to work out ok. My filter is a...

I think I might make a "garbage" beer on purpose...

Well, the ferment temperature is VERY important the more experienced do say! Sanitation followed by ferment temps covers a lot of ground in home brewing it seems. Also I noticed that using the coopers PET plastic bottles.. well.. they kind of stink. Trying to be nice about it. I still use...

I think I might make a "garbage" beer on purpose...

My first 2 brews were straight coopers kits. Their yeast really kicks in with some odd (imho) flavors if you ferment it warm, even though they say it works well warm. I did my second one nice and cool and it was VERY much better right off the bat.

I think I might make a "garbage" beer on purpose...

I made a killer ale based on a can of Coopers Real Ale. 1 lb cara 20L 3 lb amber DME 1 Coopers Real Ale can 2 oz US Saaz Wyeast 1056 or equiv. steep grains at 155 add DME and mix add 1/2 Coopers Real Ale and mix bring to boil 0.5oz at 60 0.5oz at 20 Add remaining Coopers Real Ale...

    I'm new...and I need some reassurance

I just bottled that brew last night. I modified it by adding 500 grams of sugar, but yeah it was basically just 6 pounds of Gold LME and specialty grains. I added half the LME early, and half with 10 minutes left in the boil. I used bags for the hops and strained into my bucket. I brewed it...

    Heat water before adding extract?

My last two batches I added half the LME early, and half within the last 15 minutes. Worked out just fine. :)

    stupid bottling question

I just bottled using 12 ounce, 16 ounce, 22 ounce, and a couple of plastic 25 ounce. I like the smaller better because they are ready sooner. I've used a mix before and it seems pretty universal. The larger ones take longer due to less surface area to volume ratio or some such mathematical wizardry.

FG 1020 reasonable for an OG 1062 brew?

Well, I'd moved this fermenter to the bottling stand a few days ago, and it read 1020 again today, so it was bottled tonight! It turned out to be 589 ounces, or 4.6 gallons. I'm taking this to heart as a lesson to measure my buckets with 5 known gallons of water and stick a nice piece of tape...

Online store keeping me on edge

Shipping the items that were paid for is the least anyone could expect. Fulfilling it is simply crossing the finish line with the order. The refund thing is simply that I didnt ask for a refund and wasn't offered it or I'd have said no because I am using the product that was sent and they've...

Online store keeping me on edge

It could be that I expect more out of people than others. In the decade or so of retail management that I put in though, I never had the balls to tell someone with a problem that I was sorry for their inconvenience after I clearly and demonstrably had screwed up on multiple occasions on one...

Online store keeping me on edge

Well, it's wrong to assume that if they hadnt tried to fix it that I'd have made a thread about it. I posted this because it was funny, like the keystone cops. Like the three stooges getting stuck in a doorway on the way to correct a problem is what it felt like and was the theme going in...

Online store keeping me on edge

I never emailed them to change anything. Here's a nutshell. I ordered 6 foot of tubing, a fermenter, a beer ingredient kit and a case of bottles. In the comments section of the order, I referenced my past order and pointed out that I owed them 3 bucks. Thats it. And the problems...

Too soon to pop one open..??

Heck no it's not too early. I pop open a 12 ouncer after 5 days or so everytime. I'd never had a flat one yet by the way. Not DONE mind you, but not DEAD either lol. It's your brew!

    Problems with fruit flies

They can't get in that way without scuba gear, so dont worry about it. I found one floating dead in my star san filled airlock. Squeezed itself through the tiny hole in the airlock lid, only to find a star sanny grave. I tented my fingers and said excellent.

Online store keeping me on edge

Ok, last post, final chapter. The tube they sent prioity mail never arrived at all. When I emailed to just let them know and repeat that the "wrong" tube they had sent was fine, they wanted to fed ex me another length. I said no, I dont want it. This morning I noticed a refund notification for...
