    Saison with abbey ale yeast?

Thank you so much for your response. I'm open to pitching Brett. I have let it ferment for 19 days and just took a sample. That abbey ale yeast ripped through it even with my above optimal mash temp. It's currently at 1.010, therefore the ABV is about 8.3%. It appears cloudy, without the...

    Saison with abbey ale yeast?

Mashed at 152. Fermenter is currently at 70 but ramped up to about 75 / 76 during peak. I have no means of temp control. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Saison with abbey ale yeast?

Hello all, I just brewed a saison inspired by tank 7. I loosely followed the clone recipe in the database. I used 10.5lbs Belgian pale, 2 lbs flaked corn, a couple pounds wheat malt, a half pound white wheat, and a half pound Vienna. I decided to go with wlp530 on a whim, mainly because I read...

    Gravity too high - Altbier

I brewed an Altbier with my own recipe derived from a couple different sources. The recipe was 4.5 lbs of munich and 4.5 lbs of pils with a little bit of caramunich (~1lb) and chocolate wheat(3 oz). The yeast that I used in wlp036 Dusseldorf Alt. My starting gravity was around 1.048, but my FG...

Weissbier Bee Cave Brewery Bavarian Hefeweizen

For mash and sparge water check this site out: click here . I'm not familiar with RIMS so you're on your own there. Some helpful tips for determining volumes: 1. typical mash thickness is 1.25 qts/lb. Decoction mashes are generally a bit thinner. 2. losses in your system are...

Weissbier Bee Cave Brewery Bavarian Hefeweizen

Thanks for a great recipe! I brewed this beer about two weeks ago. I added 10 oz of Munich and a tsp of dried orange peel. Followed ed wort's hop schedule and starter recommendation exactly, but unfortunately could not maintain consistent ferm. temperature. Through primary ferment, the temp...

    Wee Heavy Strong Scotch Ale

I brewed this beer to ring in the New Year on December 31st. Racked to secondary about 13 days later. Tasted delicious! The fridge that holds the secondary fermenter can only go up to 45 degrees. Will this affect the beer? It's been at 45 for maybe two weeks.

    Price: Used Barley Crusher

It's nice to hear some craigslist etiquette from someone that frequently uses it! I am addicted to the Craiglist apps on mobile/tablets, esp. for brewing supplies. It's hard for my to pick up something at the brew store when I know I can probably get it at 50-75% of the cost elsewhere (corny...

    Price: Used Barley Crusher

Thanks for all the replies. He's about an hour from me, so i'm leaning toward an offer of about 75-80 to compensate for the gas to get out there. That's a shame to hear about the quality. I've read a lot of good things about the BC here on HBT, although some ppl have mentioned the...

Brew day today! Help with water!

Ah, so we're in this boat together. I decided to cut the water like you did on brewday. I don't know if this is something that would interest you, but took cues from several ppl on this site and sent a water report into Ward Labs so that I can more easily determine how to adjust my water for...

    Price: Used Barley Crusher

What's a good price for a used 15 lb. Barley Crusher? I found on on C-List, but he's asking 140 and I know that you can buy them new for that amount. He's just had it serviced and had the rollers replaced. I'm going to make him an offer, but I don't want to insult the man.

Brew day today! Help with water!

I'm brewing an AG hefeweizen today, but I don't have a water report to help determine brewing salt additions. We have well water where I live. Should I just run out and grab some R/O water and use that? I brewed an IPA without any additions and it turned out astringent-tasting. Thanks!

    Imperial Summer Ale

My brew-partner wants to brew an imperial summer ale. I know that higher ABV isn't really fitting for the styles of beer you'd associate with a "summer ale" (i.e. kolsch and wheat beers). All I could find online was this...

    Film on top of sample

I took a sample of my dogfish 60 clone yesterday when I was racking to the secondary. I tried it yesterday, it tasted good. It's been in the primary for ten days. I left the sample in the fridge overnight and today there is a brown film on top. Am I contaminated/infected?

    VERY active fermentation

I just put the carboy on a blanket and rocked it / swirled it for about 10-15 minutes. Gave me some light foam on top. Thanks for all the help guys.

Awesome thanks. I made a blowoff tube so that I will have it on hand. Do you think I pitched too much yeast? It's in a 6.5 gallon Carboy...
