Threads you are tired of seeing

Ditto.... Edit: Okay, on second thought I'll actually say something useful. I am still a fairly new brewer (only 2 yrs now) and I know I have put up some simple (or stupid) questions in the past and I thought it was great that others would chime in and help me out. Made me feel a part of the...

Your highest score to not even place

I had a 38 that didn't place in wood aged category.

I need a style for my golden ale recipe

I think that most of what people have posted thus far is fairly accurate. The main question I think is what do you intend to get out of it? I personally (probably similar to yourself), love to make recipes on various sites or even my phone. I think it is a great way to learn styles and see what...

The single best beer bar in your state?

^^^Seconded! Great food and even better beer. It's my wife's favorite place. They also change their beer fairly often which is nice.

    Corn Cob Wine

    Heat Distribution Solution?

Alright, it's been a while so I'm sorry for the delay but here's what I ended up doing. I bought the 12x12 x0.125" version of this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003JKJCLG/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 0DER and cut it to the size of my propane burner. (first image) Next I put it on the...

    Corn Cob Wine

Arpolis, thanks for the update, I agree with Jeremy that it seems like it should be an interesting batch. I am thinking of using the recipe you described (minus the vanilla bean since the corn syrup that I got has vanilla added... although I do have some vanilla extract that might be really...

    Corn Cob Wine

So I have the corn cobs now and just picking up the pieces for this. But I was wondering how yours is coming Jeremy? Tasted it yet? Would have changed anything?

Lets see pics of your homebrewing disasters!

I posted this in another thread but I lost 5 gal of barleywine and a glass carboy in one shot. Worst part is that it was on carpet and the clean up took 5 days.

    Belgium Candi Sugar Help

You have to check out SnickasaurusRex's thread on Belgian candi sugar. It's something like "20lbs of sugar......" and something else in the title. Great info and step by step directions. I have made the deep amber a few times ascended just straight clear candi. Both have come out fantastic...

    Favorite Yeast per style

I'm still developing tastes for different strains, but for English ales or stouts I use London ale iii. American ales I use Denny 's favorite 50. I don't do lagers. And any Belgians I use 3711. Though I've been meaning to try a trappist yeast. Those are my main "house" strains.

    What's in your fermenter(s)?

I currently have a dry english cider in primary along with an "english amber something or another with tea like substance added for the heck of it". I don't know what to classify the last one as fully but I call it chaga beer. (I dropped a cayboy full of a barleywine version of this beer that...

    Better Hop Utilization

What about your og and fg? What did they turn out to be? Maybe too much residual sweetness from fg to high??? Just throwing that out there.

Why are most recipes 60 minute boils?

You know. .. I'd like a good answer to this as well. I think it has something to do with hot break or hops utilization. .. not sure though. Sub.

    Can't tell if fermenting

It looks like there is fermentation because of the bubbles in the beer but hard to tell via pics. One thing to remember is don't rely on airlock activity for whether or not fermentation is taking place. Get your hydrometer and test the gravity if you are worried. Chances are that if you pitched...

    Heat Distribution Solution?

Sounds good. I might end up getting a chunk of aluminum and see how it goes. I don't plan on brewing I'm the next few weeks but if I do I will let you know!

    Heat Distribution Solution?

Those are some good ideas. The main issue that I was thinking this would be good for is that the marks in the bottom of the kettle were exactly mimicking the steel cross beams under the pot. I also don't add extract with the flame still on and try to stir it in as best and fast as I can.

    Heat Distribution Solution?

So I recently got an 11-gallon bayou classic stainless steel pot. I was wavering on getting a boil kettle with an encapsulated bottom for better heat distribution. Ultimately I thought, "eh, I can just stir real good when I do extract to reduce scorching" (I'm trying to switch to AG, but I do...
