    IPA question:

:D Exactly! Haven't moved past a 5 gallon batch. :D Someday I may move up to a 10 gallon batch, but first I have to figure out what the heck I'm doing. At least get the basics down. thanks for all the help. :D

    IPA question:

Hmm. I'm thinking I should research the characteristics of each hop and adjust according to my preference. U know of any website that lists different hops' characteristics?

    IPA question:

American sounds cool. Since I am in the US of A. For my clarification: You recommend chinook at 60min: do you mean to boil chinook for 60 minutes (the entire boil) or to boil for a few minutes at the end? Northern brewer at midpoint? other 1/2 ounce of northern brewer at last 15? Cascade for...

    IPA question:

Going to brew an IPA for the first time. I have 2 packs of Northern Brewer, 2 packs of Chinook and 1 pack of cascade hops. What order do I brew them and at what times during the boil? For example, northern brewer at 30 minutes, chinook at 45 and cascade at the last 10? The only recipe I...

    Fermentation question:

My hydrometer instructions indicate to add the .001 to the 1.020 reading.

    Fermentation question:

At 72 degreesF: FG: 1.020, added .001 for the temp so 1.021 % alcohol volume 2.5% so 5.5% I was hoping for higher. Balling: 5% Not bad for my 3rd batch. Gonna try the yeast starter next time. What else can I do to improve?

    Storage question

My brother has a fridge that i can ferment and store during the summer. Prying it out of his hands is another story. :) Thanks for the 18ish degree tip. That helps me put things into perspective.

    Storage question

Can I store my beer at 80 degrees until i'm ready to start force carbonating in a 40 degree fridge? My plan is to have 2 servicable kegs and 1 or 2 on deck, but the only place to store it in the summer is my house that is at 80 degrees. (Gotta' keep the pipeline full).

    Fermentation question:

Man! That makes me feel a lot better! Thanks! I read the blog on creating a yeast starter, but maybe someone can refer to more resources so I get a better idea what this "yeast starter" really means?

    Fermentation question:

I'm very interested in this balance you mentioned. I'm not real clear on how the characteristics of the beer and ingredients interact. Maybe if I add more sugar I should add the hops earlier in the boil? or increase hops? Oh well. I'll let you know how this batch turns out. I hope to boil an...

    Fermentation question:

I did adust for the temperature; I added .001 to my reading. That's what my chart said to do. I used a hydrometer. I'm not familiar with the other thing you mentioned. Thanks for the info. I'm learning a lot from this dialogue! :D

    Fermentation question:

I'll be happy to address any other issues. I want a quality beer. Thanks for the guidance. I really appreciate it.

    Fermentation question:

Well, we mashed and sparged 8 pounds of grain, boiled it for an hour (maybe 5 minutes less than an hour, but we were watching the clock pretty closely). We did add more sugar than the recipe called for because I wanted a higher alcohol content. I figured more sugar contributed to the heavier OG...

    Fermentation question:

Strange: I posted all my ingredients, specifications, methods and where I bought the stuff...twice. And, those 2 posts have not shown up yet? What's up with that? I have to wait for a moderator to review?

    Fermentation question:

Wow man! 36 hours and the krausen is finally starting to form. :D First 12 hours I started to question my actions, at 24 hours i was ready to dump this one and brew another, at 26 hours i talked myself into figuring out the problem. This morning, at 36 hours, the Krausen is doing it's thing...

    Fermentation question:

yeast strain: White Lab's German Ale/Kolsch Yeast, net volume 35mls. It came in a vial. I took it out of the fridge, got it up to 70degrees, shook the vial opened it and put it in the wort/carboy. Grains: it was a mix that i got from Seven Bridges Cooperative Organic Home Brewing and Home...

    Fermentation question:

I'm brewing a blonde ale. I followed the directions except at the last 10 minutes of the boil I added a cinnamon stick. the whole thing must have disintegrated because it disappeared. Anyway, it's been about 27 hours since pitching the yeast and I'm not getting any activity. Also, the O.G...
