Inexperienced Beer Drinkers and home brewing

If that is the case, skip the Brewers Best and ask someone what a good Great Fermentations kit would be, Brian, Anita, and everyone else there know their stuff. I would also recommend stopping by Bier, which is just three doors down from GF. Conner does some great stuff and you can try all you...

Inexperienced Beer Drinkers and home brewing

emphasis mine Seems like it would be a good idea to drink some different styles rather than brew up a 5 gallon batch, sit on it for 6 weeks, and then find out you don't like it.

Inexperienced Beer Drinkers and home brewing

I know some people consider that a pretty big beer, I love it, awesome IPA, but I know plenty of people who hate it who are of the "lighter" beer persuasion.

Inexperienced Beer Drinkers and home brewing

Have you had Uplands Helios? I would try that and Sun King's Sunlight Cream Ale and Osiris, maybe Bells Pale Ale or Amber, all good beers that shouldnt be too radical.

    Cooler conversion to MT..

Old design vs new design. One uses silicon o-rings to seal, while the uses a welded on washer and about a 1/8 inch silcon gasket to form a seal. I prefer the new design myself.

    Cooler conversion to MT..

The Lowes by my place never has stainless steel fittings, and if they did I don't think they would be that cheap. I have ordered a lot of stuff from bargainfittings.com including a kettle conversion kit, dip tube, lots of cam locks, and my cooler conversion kit and they have always done a great...

Just got this months MJ Rare Beer of the Month

Bink Grand Cru and 2009 Cellar Reserve Sheep Eater Scotch Ale I don't know anything about either one, but last months was fantastic so I am pretty excited for these two. Is anyone else a member? I got it as a Christmas present, and it is a little pricey, almost $50 a month for 2 bottles...

    Score! Bells Hopslam Ale

We have it a couple places here in Indianapolis. I am halfway through my six pack. I agree with earlier comments, it is so smooth for a DIPA. The guy at the counter asked if I was happy it was back, must have had a big smile on my face. Also just heard Hoptimun is here as well, have to pick...

    Cooler conversion to MT..

I actually used the 2.0" version, but just got it to work. the 2.5 would probably work better, but might need some washers. The wall thickness really reduces where the spigot is. I also put a thermowell in the cooler and that required the 3 inch version to fit.

    Cooler conversion to MT..

I got the 36 quart and wish I had gotten one bigger because I didn't have enough room to fit all the liquid and grain for a Belgian Dark Strong I was brewing as a 5 gallon batch. Also, this is the bulkhead I used http://www.bargainfittings.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=147

    cheap wort chiller

it should work, it just might take a while. the more surface area you have in contact with the wort, the more efficient the cooling will be.

    Cooler conversion to MT..

I started off with a standard Coleman cooler. HUGE mistake. Couldn't keep heat, had terrible efficiency. Had to kick it to the curb, take the hit, and get an Xtreme. The extra insulation makes a big difference. This is using a single infusion mash and batch sparging.

    I hate wasting beer

I have to agree with those suggesting washing. It is super simple, you get a ton of good yeast, and seems to have the smallest margin of error. Check out the pictorial about washing yeast on here, it is excellent. I washed some WLP005, and got six half pint jars. Used one for a brew and just...

    Cooler conversion to MT..

I have the 50qt Coleman Xtreme with one of the new cooler bulkheads that Bargain Fittings is selling. Works great and was super easy to install. I would settle on your cooler and then take a measurement when you remove the plastic spigot so you get the correct sized nipple. Sent from my iPhone...

    Brand new! Just got done.

Congrats on your first brew. I remember everything going wrong on my first brew, a Brewer's Best Amber Ale, and everyone said it tasted good. Don't worry unless you see strange things growing in your fermentor, and even then a beer can still be salvaged. Sent from my iPhone using HB Talk
