    Waterproofing my sensitive probe

sometimes i wonder about myself. i was able to rig up a (usb powered!) stir plate and made my own stir bar, but didn't think of airline tubing... ugh, i disgust myself. my preferred solution seems to be airline tubing and silicone sealant on the tip of my probe. a little combo meal from your...

    Waterproofing my sensitive probe

Just picked up a Johnson Controls a419. I've read that the probes are not waterproof and I would like to have it sit in a liquid buffer to help keep temperature readings accurate. I've looked around, but I'm curious as to how you might have waterproofed your probe. Any (cheap) ideas?

Cleaning a Mouse Out of a Carboy

Certainly no expert, but being it's glass I'd say... Soak in Bleach... Rinse... Soak in OxyClean... Rinse... Smell it... I wouldn't be able to get over the gross factor...

    Johnson Temperature Controller (analog)

I'm wondering what this actually means. I'm in the market for a controller, just acquired a mini-fridge that can hold a 5-gallon primary. Also, is this already wired? I had been looking on ebay for unwired ones to save a bit of cash, but if this works and is ready to go, I'd be down.

    Group buy: grain mill

I'm also interested. From the looks of it - BC wins out and you may have your minimum of 20 sold already...7 vs 15 is simply a price thing for me.

    Partial Mash with RICE?

Brewed a pale ale a few weeks ago, based off of a recipe I had made a few batches before where we used Rice Syrup Solids. The original recipe called for 1 lb of RSS (roughly $5). Figuring I could see how to make the beer a bit less expensive, I did my reading on how to use rice instead of rice...

Brew Pal software in the iTunes App Store

I just noticed it was updated. Most of the recent requests were included. Supreme badassery, that's for sure.

Brew Pal software in the iTunes App Store

So I talked to a developer friend of mine and apparently push notifications for timers seems like an unnecessary pain to implement, unless you have (or want) to have your own server running all the time for them. Anyway. Thank you again.

Brew Pal software in the iTunes App Store

Some things... first, the app is amazing. i just started brewing about 5 batches ago, did the first batch off of a friends recipe and have pretty much used the app to "create" a recipe for the last 4 batches, and have had very good luck. thanks for extract support, its really nice. 1...

regarding <12oz bottles for testing/strong beers

are there different size caps? are there different size bottle mouths? i've noticed there are alternative "bells" for the bench capper types, but is it standardized with those two sizes or is it just a mixed bag. i had the idea that if it was carbonated, and wasn't screw top, you could...

regarding <12oz bottles for testing/strong beers

Before bottling a test (~30 oz) batch of chocolate cherry porter, I picked up a six pack of the small 6 oz San Pellegrino Limonata bottles and when we were capping them last night, it seemed they were perhaps a slight bit narrow at the mouth. We got two of them capped, and noticed the others...

Regarding plastic carboys and those expensive spigots

For example, I did some googling and came up with this. This is just one of the first ones I saw, but there is no information as to whether or not it would work in a PET/Better Bottle. Anyone go this route rather than getting the BB branded ones? Generic Spigot, Maybe?

Regarding plastic carboys and those expensive spigots

Racking is most definitely the cheapest option, but spigoting (just got underlined, apparently it is not a word) allows for much more flexibility. StarSan in a PET bottle with spigot would be extremely nice. Using a PET bottle as a bottling "bucket" is also nice. Everything (everywhere?) is a...

Regarding plastic carboys and those expensive spigots

I think I have found a local water distributor who carries PET bottles that I may be able to pick up for about $8/each. Thinking I could also get the spigots for it (but not necessarily the racking adapter). Are there generic spigots that you could use for it? I imagine there isn't much...
