    Does anyone "save" yeast slurry?

    Awesome thread. Thanks!!

    Does anyone "save" yeast slurry?

It's been a good non-brewing brew day! I racked my Sam Adam's Winter Lager clone to secondary and I bottled my DIPA after a week of continuous dry hopping. Everything is cleaned, sanitized, and back in the closet. :ban: Anyway, when I was all finished up with the bottling I had some leftover...

I want to make a starter from commercial bottle yeast sediment...

What are the recommendations? I tried searching out a good thread, but couldn't really find one. I'm going to be brewing a nice dark dubbel next weekend and I have a few bottles of Bell's Hell Hath No Fury that I would like to harvest the yeast from. What's the best method? I have a 2000ml...

So how well did they age? Did the bananna drop out a bit?

How do you remove labels from old bottles?

Same here as most. Oxyclean in the sink with hot water for a couple of hours. Most labels slide off and I just "wash" the outside of the bottle with the scrubby side of a sponge. For the tough ones, I have a 35cent black plastic scraper (cheap 2" drywall spackler) from Lowes. Takes about 5...

    Magnetic Stir Plate

I, too, apologize. I've been on the board for exactly 3 weeks today and I certainly don't have the in's and out's down. I have made efforts to read stickies and entire threads before posting my own. A better response may have been...several great threads have been posted on this before...

Well, I went to remove my comment after I saw you added additional info to help. But you gotta admit, the way you originally responded was unnecessary. I mean, why even answer? That lonely?

Sweet...I have an unused PC and a few old cell chargers. I'll hit up radio shack tomorrow and get back at ya. Thanks!!!

    Magnetic Stir Plate

Wow...but you did. I searched the two first pages and found nothing. But now I do see the tiny search box hidden up in the beer head. Thanks for the tip. Edited to remove derogatory comments :fro:

What's the most vigorous/potentially dangerous fermentation you've had?

I actually put a bung in a carboy that fed into a positive pressure blowoff....the cider exploded from the weak carboy on half a closet of clothes!!!! LOL

What's the most vigorous/potentially dangerous fermentation you've had?

I just wrote a couple of days ago about my first basement lager (with an OG of 1.081) that seemed to be fermenting nicely on the next day (Saturday about 1pm). Bubbling was minor but steady....did I mention this was my first lager? I figured all was cool, so I shut out the light for another...

    T Minus 3...2...1

I've used blow off tubes before, but only when I primary in a 5 gallon carboys...I thought I was safe in a 6.5 but live and learn. lol

    T Minus 3...2...1

Brewed my first partial mash and lager (same brew) Friday night. OG was a 1.081 and I used Wyeast Kolsch yeast because I don't have a super cold fermentation zone for primary (only 52-56 degF). Checked fermentation Saturday about 1pm and had some minor bubbling, so I assumed all was going well...

Anyone use Midwest's "Kit of the Month"?

They add shipping at a rate of about $8.50-9.00. It varies on the kit weight.

Temperature Limitations Discovered On My First Lager

Cool. Thanks. I plan on doing the dicetyl rest as well. I guess I will need to monitor the SG pretty closely to ensure everything is going ok. Do the rest when 3/4 to FG...or so I've heard. What temp do you typically lager at? I'm guessing I will do mine between 34-36 for about 8-10 weeks.

Temperature Limitations Discovered On My First Lager

I was wanting to do my first lager this weekend (a Sam Adams Winter Lager clone). I have been playing with some experiments and have found that I can get my garage fridge up to about 44degF consistently, but not any higher. I have a freezer full of food, so I can't use a temp controller...

    Samuel Adams Winter Lager

Wow! Priced out the ingredients today at Midwest and I'm gonna be in for ~$58 (w/ shipping). Another $5 for water...maybe I should just buy it....nah. No fun in that. :cross:
