    Pin vs Ball Lock Kegs

Ball lock because I can fit 3 in my kegerator and because I got a good deal on them.

Hurry up and wait...what you do while waiting for the mash, boil, etc....

I'm usually timing something during those wait times (i.e. mashing) like making dinner, cleaning, or doing something with the kids.

Charlotte Area (Rock Hill, SC - Carolina Brew Supply) Grain Buy #1

I did ask our LHBS and the response I got was that they would entertain the idea with certain assurances. I assume payment up front and I'm sure there's no problem with that since that's expected with these. So if they might do this, I have no idea what the price would look like. The last...

Anyone on HBT near Charlotte, NC? Closest major city to me I think, from Clover, SC.

Charlotte Area (Rock Hill, SC - Carolina Brew Supply) Grain Buy #1

I'm getting ready to put together an order from morebeer with the free shipping too. Alternative Beverage (ebrew.com) is great for a quick thing but I tend to agree with you here. Still, I'd love to buy a couple sacks if there was more interest. But down the road eh? Send me a message...

    Recipe for Review: Shamrock Stout

Heh I was waiting for someone to point that out. Yeah, it did feel a bit weird not putting roasted barley into a stout. I pulled the original recipe (before I tweaked the hell outta it) from a good source and they didn't have roasted barley in it either and its called a stout. Weird. I agree...

    Recipe for Review: Shamrock Stout

    Maybe something like this... 6 gallon batch Grains: - 10 # 2-row (72%) - 1 # Munich I (7%) - 1 # Melanoidin (7%) - 1 # Chocolate Wheat (7%) - 1/2 # CaraAroma (3.5%) - 1/2 # CaraMunich III (3.5%) Hops: - 1 oz Nugget @ 60 - 1 oz Crystal @ 30 Yeast: - WLP002 - English Ale Extras: - 12 oz...

    Recipe for Review: Shamrock Stout

I'm actually switching to WLP 002 because I now have it on hand. Also considering 154F mash actually to keep it a little thicker. This is supposed to be a dessert beer of sorts, chocolately, malty, and rich. Hopefully I achieve that. As for the Melanoidin, I was reading that Weyermann...

Southern Tier - Thick Mint Stout

Any clone recipes out there? I've been searching and no luck so far.

    Recipe for Review: Shamrock Stout

Yeah, originally I was going to use Victory and Weyermann suggested Melanoidin in it's place and I didn't think to change the amounts. The gravity is already a bit high so I may just reduce the Melanoidin and maybe add a little roasted barley.

    Recipe for Review: Shamrock Stout

I'm hearing from other places I've posted this that maybe it's a little much on the melanoidin? I've never used so I don't know. Bump for thoughts on this recipe? What should I move around? Keep in mind for fun I'm trying to do all Weyermann on this.

    Southeastern VA/Eastern NC???

Thanks for the reply. Yeah 6 hours is a bit far for this. If there's no group buys around the Charlotte area, then I'll just order online because my LHBS is a bit high in pricing for my tastes. Plus for 2-row they only carry Briess :(

    Southeastern VA/Eastern NC???

I'm near Charlotte, NC. Not sure how far away pickup would be, but keep me in mind if close. I've been looking for a group buy around here. I live in Clover, SC but work in Charlotte.

    Recipe for Review: Shamrock Stout

Trying my hand at creating a recipe for a chocolate mint stout. What do you guys think of this combo? BeerSmith shows this in range for the style. Just curious about the community thoughts on it. Thanks! 6 gallon batch Grains: - 11 # 2-row - 2 # Melanoidin - 1 # Chocolate Wheat - 1/2 #...

First Brew Day - Dude, Where's My Beer?

Welcome to home brewing! It does take some time to dial in your system so don't worry, you'll get it the way you like it in time. Aiming for your numbers is a great goal but I'm sure it'll still make good beer. I brew in the garage and do notice a difference with the weather too. You just...
