Apfelwein has a layer of krausen forming? I think?

Hello there. Well yes that batch of apfelwein came out great and super tasty. It was an extremely big hit around the house and I just actually just kegged 10 more gallons last night! (Same recipe, but I added blackberry purée to 5 gallons and it is awesome). I didn't get any krausen on either...

Stopper eased out of lager during "lagering." Oxidation?

What is your method for hitting the carboy with c02 if you don't mind me asking? What you said about the racking makes a lot of sense. I feel kind of silly for not thinking of that myself

Stopper eased out of lager during "lagering." Oxidation?

Ha well not much I suppose. This is my first time using a secondary and I've definitely had some time invested in these brews. Call me a bit paranoid :o

Stopper eased out of lager during "lagering." Oxidation?

Glad to hear. I use star san and yes I had that same dilemma. I hated to touch the carboy neck and stopper with an "unsanitized" paper towl but fingers crossed that won't cause any problems. My rubber stoppers have been used on my 6.5 gallon carboys exclusively so they are almost squished to...

Stopper eased out of lager during "lagering." Oxidation?

I have a noble and run to the pils from Austin Homebrew supply in the works. I had a great 3 week @50-55 primary, 1 week long diactyl rest, then racked to secondary glass carboys and deposited in my chest freezer at 34 degrees. I was super bummed to find out that 2 weeks into lagering I come...

    Trub: Evidence of fermentation?

Hello, I searched but could not find. Is the accumulation of trub in the bottom of your primary fermenter any evidence of fermentation? or is it just hop/grain particulate? Pat

Wyeast 1056 American Ale vs. Wyeast 1272 American II. Problems ...

Did not take them ... Was too lazy Here's an update :( The American Ale is still beasting along. The American II is making maybe 1/10th of the activity the AA is.

Wyeast 1056 American Ale vs. Wyeast 1272 American II. Problems ...

Hello HBT, This past Saturday I decided to brew a 10 gallon batch of Da Yooper's House Pale Ale. I found her all grain recipe posted in one of her threads and converted it to a partial mash Credits to Yooper: 5 pounds pale malt (I used marris otter) 3 pounds vienna malt 2 pounds...

    Jalapeño Beer?

Cream ale ;) Id stray from darker beers. To me the cream is a very nice base for this. Great presentation/color in the glass. A sandy yellowish look. I wouldn't try it any other way ... Although I recently made a mango habanero pale ale, which has worked out beautifully and is very tasty...

    Jalapeño Beer?

I recently kegged a jalapeño cream ale. A fella and I at the LHBS came up with a basic cream ale recipe and I read up on forums about pepper additions. The beer came out wonderfully, really better than I ever expected. It's gone fast, everyone who has tried it has really liked it. I even had one...

    Lager kit problem

I can attest to this. In August I received an Oktoberfest kit as a gift from AHS. It had liquid white labs lager yeast and I didn't at the time have the equipment to lager. Soo .... I went to the LHBS and was given a recommendation to use a packet of dry yeast from a brewers best kit that...

Another "does my beer look OK" thread: Brewer's Best Oktoberfest

Finally, the first time I feel comfortable saying ... RDWHAHB! My first time :rockin: I recently brewed a Patton's California Pale Ale that looked like just like that during fermentation. It's now sitting happily and tastefully in my kegerator. You're fine :)

Do I have a leak in my keg system?

I have a 5 lb. c02 tank in my kegerator that is hooked up to 3 kegs. It has gone through 5 kegs now and my regulator is buried deep in the red "refill tank" area. Still carbing away on my kegs :mug: you're fine

    Mark your carboys

Wow a mighty active fermentation you had there! Looks neat. And doh, it does look a little less filled than my 6.5 gallons carboys that are filled with 5 gallons. Funny story. I finished primary fermentation on a hefe and kegged it while brewing a jack o lantern to fill the newly emptied...

Apfelwein bottling ... Using fruit juice concentrate instead of priming sugar?

<homer simpson voice> mmmmmmm ... Appley goodness .... Well I may try using primimg sugar in my next batch to compare, figured this time I would take the tip from the LHBS guy. He told me that he is in charge of making apfelwein for his mom and this was the method he used. Maybe she likes it...

Apfelwein bottling ... Using fruit juice concentrate instead of priming sugar?

Well I do realize this, now :) Do you forsee this as a problem?

Apfelwein bottling ... Using fruit juice concentrate instead of priming sugar?

Well I just threw it in the bottling bucket 1/2 way through the siphoning process. Didn't even stir it. Got 50 bottles exactly. Hope it is even better chilled/carbed :)
