    Question about lager yeast starter

I have brewed a few lagers before. The first one I didn't use a starter, and the others I used a 2L starter but only 1 vial. All of those beers turned out very good, but I realize that doesn't mean it's the right way. I just recently I found out about calculating proper starter volumes (and...

    Question about lager yeast starter

I am getting ready to brew an American style lager in a couple weeks and have been doing some research about how big of a starter I need. I came across the mr malty calculator and that told me that using a stir plate I need a 2L starter using 2 vials of yeast. First of all I have never had to...

What guage wire from main panel to spa panel?

The guage of wire needed is going to depend on the size breaker you are using. The wire gauge needs to be rated for the maximum amps your breaker can pull, even if your setup won't use all the current. If you use a 30A breaker in your main panel you can run 10ga. wire to the spa box. That is...

120 volt and CIP, will this work?

The triclamp will seal just fine. I have a 2" triclamp to 1/2" MPT fitting on the bottom of mine (then a 90 elbow and out the side) and it doesn't leak at all.

    Critique my e-brewing Schematic

It looks to me like the switch powers one relay coil or the other. I don't see how both could be on at the same time.

First brew on new e-HERMS system

So far I have only used whole hops. I haven't thought about pellet hops yet. I'm not sure how I would do that. The bottom is a 2" triclamp to 1/2 MPT and then a 90 elbow. It sticks out about 2-3 inches past the bottom ring of the keg. That's why I have to have the keg elevated. I like the...

    Keg to ekeggle conversion pics

I have the Auber pid. It fits with about 3/8" clearance behind it. I don't have pics of the inside yet but once my 3 wire RTD connector shows up I will take it apart and take pics.

    Pacman problems

Did you just put the inoculation needle down in the bottle and then streak the plate with it?

First brew on new e-HERMS system

My keggle is upside down so it uses a bottom center drain. The 12" false bottom fits perfect. My element is 3-4 inches off the bottom of the keg so the false bottom comes in and out very easy.

First brew on new e-HERMS system

Yea I did use the spa box for my controller. I was on a budget so I didn't want to buy another enclosure. I also used an old outlet and switch for my 120v pump circuit. The connector on the bottom is for a dryer outlet. I used dryer cables to power the elements so they plug right in (one at...

First brew on new e-HERMS system

Thanks! I plan on brewing every other weekend for the next couple months so I can get everything set up the way I want. The new false bottom showed up yesterday and it fits perfect (Thanks Jaybird!). I also just bought a grain mill so hopefully that should help my efficiency as well.

    Controller Question for P-J

I'm curious how this works. If you have 2 hots and a ground going into the GFCI how do you get 2 hots, a ground, and a neutral coming out? Can someone else chime in and explain it? I'm having a hard time understanding.
  16. P

    Controller Question for P-J

The 240v element does not use a neutral wire. Neutral wires are only for 120v devices. You said you're using a 220v 3 wire power source. A 3 wire source is 2 hot wires and a ground, no neutral. If that is true than you won't be able to run your pumps. The diagram you posted shows a 4 wire...

First brew on new e-HERMS system

Well today I finally tried out my new e-Herms system. Overall I was very impressed. It held my mash temp perfectly, and I used the heat exchanger as a cooling coil to cool down the wort after boiling. The only problems I have are efficiency (68%), and the false bottom in the keggle is not...

    GE Spa Panel Breaker

If you go this route make sure you have 8/3 or 8/4 (depends on if you need 120V service) wire to run to the panel, and any plugs or connectors between the two need to be rated for 50A. If you don't need all 50A you can use a regular 30A breaker in the load center and #10 wire. I just went...

    Questions about spa box

Yes the spa box and controls will be hard wired and permanently mounted to the wall, the cables to all the equipment will disconnect from the box. You answered my question. I just wanted to make sure the 30A breaker goes in the main box and the gfci stays in the spa box.

    Questions about spa box

Yes I am installing a complete new circuit. The wire is 10-3 with a ground so actually 4 wires. I am not terminating with a typical outlet, I will be installing a 120V switched outlet on the side of the box to plug my pump into.
