    Blowoff tube for Better Bottle?

I have had good luck with the orange ones. They are far too loose to be air tight for a blow off or racking from a better bottle, but throw some zip ties on there, or maybe some big hose clamps as mentioned before and they seal up just fine. To get my B3 racking setup to work i use zip ties...

    Nottingham Yeast

Open the yeast and rehydrate as normal then turn the package inside out and hold it up to a bright light. If you don;t see any pinholes you may be safe. Or just us s-05, but im atleast gonnna try this with my packet.

    water bottle vs better bottle?

usually the type of plastic. Better bottles have a 1 on the bottom (PETE) most water bottles I see have a 7 (other). AFIK 1's &2's are the only suitable for fermentation. I do have a local company that uses 1's, but everything I've seen at Wally world and Lowes is a 7.

    Worthless or Awesome?

In my quest to find some cheap sanke kegs to build a brew sculpture, I found a 3 gallon corny keg at the scrap yard. Would it even be safe to use this thing, I'm pretty sure I can clean it up, but it has some little specks of rust or stains on the inside bottom, are these deal breakers or can...

Best Starter for a Propogator Pack

I'm trying to step it up to at least 12mil cells per ml, will this work. Unfortunately Jamil's calculator assumes an activator pack or pitchable tube.

Best Starter for a Propogator Pack

I plan on doing a PM Oatmeal Stout this friday, and i have a Propagator smack pack of 1084 Irish Ale yeast. I'd like ot make the best possible starter with what I have: 1lb of light DME, 1L flask, 2L flask, Yeast nutrient, and Stir Plate. I was thinking of doing a 1L starter Monday night...

Adding something different to B3 oatmeal stout

So I've got the B3 Oatmeal Stout Partial Mash recipe and i was thinking of adding something. Either Vanilla or Chocolate. How much chocolate would I want to add. I have no access to a LHBS, so its either cocoa powder or Vanilla extract. I've seen 8oz of cocoa powder at 15 mins or 4oz at 30 and 4...

Why I love Austin Homebrew supply

AHS does a great job of getting orders out. I was a little disappointed to find i couldn't get the 50 states deal and the free shipping for the membership on the same ticket. Not a big deal their speed in shipping to this dump I live in makes up for it, considering my LHBS is 4-5 hours away in...

    Coolers with Screw on lids...

Are most of you all using rubbermaid coolers with threaded lids? Seems like it would be kind of an issue with a HEX or sparge arm and various other stuff mounted in the lid and on the sides of the coolers. Have some of you cut the threads off, or did you construct everything to still be able...

    MoreBeer Bulkhead

As I plot my transition from extract/PM to all grain, I'm trying to decide how to set up my coolers/kegs MLT and HLT's (still working on the Brass v SS and RIMS v HERMS issues as well). I stumbled across this item on more beers site...

    Countertop Brutus 20

Would this be an easy way to scale the design up to 5 gal batches? Two 120v elements One SSR, for each element (drawing power from 2 seperate household circuts) One PID controlling both SSR's From what I understand a PID like yours puts out enough current to control two SSR's, however would...
