This grain hopper extension is for the dogs.

I was looking for an inexpensive way to add more capacity to the hopper for my grain mill. Here's what I came up with I call it the Elizabethan hopper extender. It's a re-purposed Elizabethan collar. My dog hated that thing.

    My new (future) assistant brewer.

Congratulations! She's beautiful. Ever wonder why some new parents announce the weight of their newborn child? So you know how much hops to add. :-)

    Would You Centrifuge

I'd definitely use the centrifuge to pellet yeast for freezing and long-term storage. Add some glycerol. As for trying to centrifuge beer to drink--sounds like more trouble than it's worth. If you do it, let me know how it works out--he says, starting to wonder how he could justify the...

    Cleaning plastic tubing?

If there is mold, I'd just replace the tubing. Tubing is cheap. Keep your stuff clean - rinse immediately after use with warm water to flush any sugar. I store mine with iodophor in it, then run some water and more iodophor through before use. I know that's overkill, but I'd rather do...

    Crap! Forgot Water/Vodka in Airlock

It's doubtful that bacteria would get through your airlock as long as the airlock itself was clean. Pasteur's swan-necked flasks were essentially s-shaped airlocks with no liquid in them. Those flasks remained sterile for years. The oxygen is the main concern, but I don't think you have to...

    I'll never understand why....

Please convince me I need a sandblaster for my hobby. So many uses...removing beer labels, de-rusting those patio chairs...mmm, I'm out of reasons--but I'm sure I need one.

    Mashing 4 pounds

There's a cool "can I mash it" calculator on Green Bay Rackers: http://www.rackers.org/calcs.shtml As for "is it too big" - if you pre-heat your mash tun and avoid opening it, you should be fine.

    I'll never understand why....

That's basically me. If I'm giving the bottles away and want to create an entire image, I'll do up the labels, wrap them and put a bow on. If you're at my house, I'm going to pour them out of a tap. I haven't polished the kegs (looks like a lot of work--and I'd rather brew), but they're...

    Anybody up for a riddle?

You're bright and you're right. Too easy? I guess it was cheesy. Here's one that's Icky. What's brown and sticky?

    Anybody up for a riddle?

Now let us see if you can answer this for me. I know a word of letters three add two and fewer there will be.

    Anybody up for a riddle?

First I thought of a clock, but that was not a lock. Even though 9am is 9 hours before six in the evenings Ten more from nine only gets to eleven dings On the clock eleven is fifty not forty At my house we have a chronometer That Caeser would have no need to remember binary or arabic...

    Star Wars VII

Disney has been a _lot_ better since John Lasseter (formerly head of Pixar) became Chief Creative Officer. Compare Tangled (the Rapunzel movie) to the straight to DVD stuff they were putting out several years back. If you were a fan of Jar-Jar-Binks and think that is the height of creativity...

Is it bad for a keg to warm up after getting chilled

You won't lose any carbonation if your beer is pressurized. Pressure will increase with increasing temp, but the CO2 has nowhere to go. If you can avoid excessive heat, my feeling is that you'll be OK. Your equipment may not be if it goes under water, but your beer should be. Skunking...

I think I found my soulmate...

If I'm not mistaken, your quote is from an earlier book. The ban on beer is derived from this: http://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/89?lang=eng They believe that god is alive and speaks even today, so revisions of church teachings are possible (renouncing polygamy in 1890 for...
