Brewing for a wedding... ideas on selection?

No, I meant at the camping site. 11 people drinking 10 gallons. In a single day, but don't know how long they were drinking. That's still a lot of beer to consume, and to assume all 11 were drinking that much? Even if they were big, burly types it's a lot of beer. But 4 12oz glasses is...

    Something wong.

If it is an infection that causes the foaming, you have a much greater chance of missing something with 48 bottles to fill. With a keg you can just be more thorough cleaning and sanitizing the entire thing at once. Doing just that is on my agenda for tomorrow with 5g of lager in the fridge in...

Brewing for a wedding... ideas on selection?

I just did the math in my head and that's almost a gallon of beer per person. I completely doubt this story now.

Split batch, one carboy is further along than the other

I did a second batch the same way a few weeks ago and this time they both tracked the same and both are clear. Who knows.

    Official Broken Hydrometer Count

I tempted fate by leaving mine in the dish drainer through the washing of dinner dishes by my very clumsy wife. It is still in one piece.

Brewing for a wedding... ideas on selection?

What better time to drink beer than when camping. That sounds like a lot of beer though to drink in one evening. I hope the vegetation nearby was hardy, you know, beer in, pee out... But even knowing that I'd hesitate to think they'd all be drinking beer at a wedding when the harder stuff is...

Brewing for a wedding... ideas on selection?

I can't ever remember being at a wedding and seeing many people drinking beer. With that in mind I would cut back on quantity and stick to lighter styles. It's a wedding not a beer tasting. The parents, aunts, uncles, other family aren't there for beer, only the friends maybe. NEIPA? no...

Which of these should go when during the boil, Tettnanger, Hallertau?

I started the D-rest at 1.013 and it went down to 1.007 after 2 days. I've turned the fridge down to 1℃. I tasted the sample vs. a little leftover Crisp and they were similar but not exactly the same. It'll still be a good beer.

Which of these should go when during the boil, Tettnanger, Hallertau?

First taste today and so far pretty good. OG was 1.054 and it is now at 1.020. I'm thinking a D-rest is in order now. I'd like it to go down to 1.008 for a ABV of 5.9%

Which of these should go when during the boil, Tettnanger, Hallertau?

I was shooting for 44, which is what The Crisp is, so I'm actually pretty close and by design. The Crisp is always more bitter than my Saaz brew. Too late to change it now. It's in the fridge fermenting. But I think I hit my mark.

BIAB vs. Brewing with Mash Tun, Hot Liquor Tank, Sparging etc.

Actually the kitchen was for me. I just wasn't thinking about brewing when we designed it as I hadn't brewed in 3-4 years at that point. And here is my ghetto jockey box for the wort chiller. I have to use the garden hose for the chiller and run it through the window. The water at this time...

Which of these should go when during the boil, Tettnanger, Hallertau?

I made the batch today and did 2oz at 70, 1oz at 15 and 1oz at 5. Mixed them 50/50 for all additions. Brew day went pretty smoothly. I'm letting the wort settle in a large carboy, then I'll split it into two 3gallon square Better Bottles and pitch the yeast straight from the stir plate where...

BIAB vs. Brewing with Mash Tun, Hot Liquor Tank, Sparging etc.

I looked at robo-brew systems but they weren't worth the money to me. My beer making goal over the last 5 years is to NOT spend any more money on equipment. The thing that is getting in the way of that thinking is that I did a kitchen remodel and brewing in the new kitchen isn't as convenient...

    Starting Over

Because I don't brew often enough to make it worthwhile to store it, or go through the trouble of washing it. When the beer is done in the fermenter all I want to do is dump the trub and clean up.

    Starting Over

Just put a yeast starter up for the next round. Hard seltzer will have to wait. This recipe will be a "Crisp" clone, from Sixpoint Brewery here in Brooklyn. I'm using the same malts but swapping in Hallertau and Tettnanger hops for the Saaz, and Octoberfest lager blend from Wyeast instead of...

BIAB vs. Brewing with Mash Tun, Hot Liquor Tank, Sparging etc.

I started doing all grain with BIAB over 10 years ago and I haven't had any urge to move on from it. The beer comes out head and shoulders above any extract brew I'd done. A three vessel system may produce better beer still but it is expensive. I do 5 gallon batches and have no hooks or...

What I did for beer today

Made a starter out of Wyeast Octoberfest lager blend. 2L are on the DIY stir plate. Brew day is Tuesday.
