Kegs Holding CO2 but Leaking Liquid (?!)

I wouldn't have thought that the cam lock mechanism was strong enough to prevent a water leak either. I know it doesn't in mine. It won't put even pressure all around the seal while air pressure puts it everywhere around the seal. I usually have to adjust the lid a couple of times to make it...

Need a replacement for my beer fridge

Tried out the fit today and everything fits without modification, just by removing the door holders. The single keg fits on the left side easily without even needing the lift to clear the bottom lip of the door. The bottles just fit. The only problem is that the fridge rocks back and forth...

Need a replacement for my beer fridge

OK, another 4 months have passed and I finally just ordered the Danby as suggested sight unseen. I'm still hoping to not have to cut the door off as I only have one keg and maybe that'll fit without modification. I'll likely need to take the door holders off but that is no biggie. I don't...

Need a replacement for my beer fridge

I finally went and looked today at a few stores and the ones they had would not hold the 2 Better Bottles side by side. I'm still trying to figure out how they are so narrow when they are the same cu ft. as the one I have. They are the same height too but don't look to be any deeper. I think...

Need a replacement for my beer fridge

My fridge fit the keg on the left side without taking the inside door off if I put it on a 1" shelf. Would this Darby fridge do the same and allow the keg on one side? Also, would it be possible for you to measure the inside width? The two bottles in my pic need to fit. What I can't figure...

Need a replacement for my beer fridge

My 4.4 cuft Frigidaire LFPH44M4LM seems to be struggling to maintain a cold temp. I use one of the common temp controllers to set the temps and had it at 3c, where I normally would keep it for my keg. I also use it for fermentation, where 2 3gallon Better Bottles fit side by side just...

How long does your brew day take with your electric systems?

I guess my point in posting this originally was to see if the actual brew day could be shortened. If heating the water unattended overnight works I would count that as a win. I've at least had the water set up the night before, but I'm using the gas stove so I can't have it ready in advance...

    First Lager Question

I haven't had a problem with sucking air. I use sanitizer in the airlock and if some of that got in no big deal. And yes, it is to drop as much as I can. I get clear beer out of the keg. It isn't really an extra step either, I cold crash in the primary and transfer to the keg. I'm just...

Help! Added frozen concentrated cranberry juice

The other thing with putting the hydrometer in is being able to read it. In a plastic or steel bucket you can't see it from the side, and how do you get it out with a glass carboy? Anyway, we all have our preferred methods. All are good if they work for you.

    First Lager Question

The D-rest has the added benefit of finishing the fermentation quickly. Use the 80% method above, although I just set the temp on my fridge to 62-64 or so. Then cold crash it then keg it. I put it on gas in the keg and let it sit for a couple of weeks before I start tasting. I continue to...

    Today I screwed up by...

On my last batch everything went smoothly until I told my wife to turn on the spigot that my chiller was attached to. It was then I saw the packet of whirlfloc. Oh well. I threw one in and everything is OK almost 2 weeks later and the beer is cold crashing nice and clear.

Help! Added frozen concentrated cranberry juice

I use a turkey baster (exclusive to my brewing) to draw off some into the old school cylinder, 4 draws with the baster is enough. Hydrometer goes in. But the other purpose of doing that is using it to taste after the reading and it doesn't go to waste. It's the main reason I never bought a...

Best advice to give a new brewer?

Get a bucket, make some sanitizer with Star-san, about 2-3 gallons, and keep that bucket nearby and throw everything in it that you will use, whether it touches the beer or not. Siphon from the bucket into your fermenters and kegs and siphon back to the bucket. If you bottle, make enough so...

Does anyone buy yeast in bulk ?

Do you use the same yeast that much that you would want that large a quantity? I know I never use the same yeast more than two times in a year. As a hobbyist with this, experimentation is what it is about. Even twice in a year is too much, I think with my Pilsners I've used different yeasts...

What I did for beer today

I just put my Hoppy American Amber into my secondaries for cold crashing. Both bottles are the same, they just fit nice and square into my fridge, I'll recombine them in the keg.

How long does your brew day take with your electric systems?

With BIAB the spent grains are already contained in the bag and go back into the big plastic bag they came in, and then into a kitchen garbage bag. The big problem is that you can't just put them out into a garbage can as the animals then make a mess of them. This is why I brew on Tuesdays...

Multiple packs of lager yeast, no starter...

I think at that price I'd have just waited, or considered something else, or maybe just reduced the batch size and used whatever packs I could get locally. Maybe a quick 1 day starter would have been enough. I've done that, I'll put the starter on in the evening, and then brewed a day and a...

What I did for beer today

Took my first reading of my attempt at Yooper's Hoppy American Ale. OG was 1.069 and now it is at 1.015. Not too shabby. It will be one week tomorrow so maybe it is done. I'll let it sit a few more days to see if it drops any and then put it in the secondary and cold crash it.

American Amber Ale Hoppy American Amber or Malty American Pale Ale?

I just took the first taste and hydro reading. It started at 1.062 and is now at 1.015 after 6 days. Tastes nice with a good bitterness to it and a full bodied mouth feel. This is pretty much as I expected. I'm leaving it for another few days at least in the primary and then I'll transfer to...

How long does your brew day take with your electric systems?

I should try the hot water as it is about 130 in my house. It would kick start the process. I'm always a little shy about using hot water from the tap and the only thing I currently use it for cooking is when I use my sous vide, which never actually touches the food. I have a relatively new...
