What wort chiller for 5 gallon batch

I started using a plate chiller recently and to avoid clogs I simply use a hop spider. I have a big copper IC that works good, but I don't like having to carry it in and out of the boik kettle. With a plate chiller just pump boiling wort through it in the last 10 minutes of your boil to...

    Cold crash before kegging neipa?

I crashed my most recent one, Primarily to get the hops out of suspension. Although I don't have a fancy Co2 suckback device I just made it a habit to purge the headspace twice a day for the 48 hours I crashed. Then I did a pseudo pressure transfer (Sovereign Fermentor doesn't hold onto more...

NEIPA Super long lasting Hazy Tips

I may consider doing a NEIPA with TYB Voss Kviek. Its a great yeast and stays hazy forever

    Brut ipa pouring issues

What about coiling your beer line around the keg so it's in contact with a more temp stable item? I also run into occasional foaming as my garage gets 100-110 and even though I have fans everywhere in my kegerator and their is literally no temperature stratification, the tap just can't stay cold...

    New Kombucha Batch

Does the hydrometer add any value to kombucha brewing? I was under the impression that it wouldnt be accurate post fermentation because sugars are consumed but only a few sugars become alcohol. I'm already on my 2nd batch. My first was 2 gallons finished, second I upped it to 3 gallons as the...

    New Kombucha Batch

My wife just bought me a kombucha starter kit and I just bottled my first 2.5 gallons and it's already almost gone! I plan on doing 3 gallon batches, kegging 2.5g, and having two kegs in rotation so it's always available! TBH I think it's a great alternative to beer on nights or other times you...

Pitching Champagne Yeast to Finish My Imperial Stout

Pitch the yeast. Worst case scenario it doesn't drop but a few points. I would rehydrate the yeast before pitching though.

    Over carbonated kombucha

I just bottled my first batch... it was fermenting for 14 days or so and hit seemingly terminal pH of 2.8. I bottled with a little fruit and within 2 days they were gushers. All I did to remedy that was to burp the bottle once were refrigerated. That took care of the issue. I was shocked to see...

Homebrewed Beer Opening Like "Champagne Bottles"? Help!

Temperature that's too warm may or UV exposure could "skunk" the beer, but that wouldn't be the source of your overcarbonation.

Stainless steel won't come clean? (black residue)

Forgive my question, but any metal will rub color onto a cloth if you scrub enough no? You can polish a silver spoon with a mirror finish and still get black residue on the towel...

    Lemonaughty hops?

Interesting... I just did a hazy IPA which had el dorado, citra, and lemondrop. First time using all those varieties. The beer was fantastic, but I was quite suprised to NOT find citrus forward aroma from the Citra and Lemondrop. El dorado smelled like heaven though... Maybe next batch will be...

    Mash tun basket?

A steel basket can't be squeezed, but it is 200% easier to run some sparge water through it. I am doing BIAB currently but the low efficiency kinda bums me out. I have a rectangular cooler that I did a BIAB with manifold and RIMS but I quickly realized that channeling is a huge issue which...

"Warm" fermenting beers other than Saison....

Do it! My last batch was pitched at 80°, let it free rise, then bumped on the heat... it actually peaked at 102° which is insane. Tastes awesome though! I was at FG in less than 48 hours.

    Starsan and silicone hose?

I know this is a necropost, but just was suprised to see a silicone hose brittle and broken after forgetting it in a bucket of starsan for 10-14 days.

"Warm" fermenting beers other than Saison....

I have found TYB Voss Kviek to be very versatile style wise. I have used it in a black IPA, several sours, and of course saisons. It stays pretty hazy so even a NEIPA would be fun to try.
