Sounding like autolysis. I think its the glutomates that it generates that is similar to some of the flavors in soy sauce...or beef stock.

I'm in central PA. My cascade grow great. Just make sure you give them room to grow.

I'll mix up 3galthe of starsan in my primary..let it sit for 10-20min. Invert it for 10-20min. Then transfer to a carboy to santitize the tubing. Then use the carboy to santize anything else that I need thoughout the brew day.

Bleach solution is also a pretty powerful cleanser. A good long soak in a 10:1 water:bleach solution should loosen up most grime.

Save the carboy and sacrifice the cork. Cut out some of the cork until it is loose enough to remove.

I'm in central PA. Climate zone 5. Similar to VA. I have three types of hops, but the most flourishing one is the Cascade. I planted the rhyzome in early spring, and was able to harvest that fall.

What about sanitizing the extra water? Is municipal tap water clean enough?

Recently, I've noticed that IPAs have been giving me pounding headaches the day after. I've read that hops can induce migraines, but I've also read that hops help get rid of headaches...go figure. Now I just pound a couple glasses of H2O and some aspirin before bed.

What was your target SG? Like the others already said, you can boil down to 5galdisassemble/wash/rvassemble and accept the SG at that point. Or continue to boil to achieve your target SG, and live with a smaller batch (less than 5gal)
