    Bleach/Vinegar Sanitizer Shelf Life

Bleach is bad for stainless steel and yeast has a bad reaction to it. Two reasons I will never use bleach for brewing.

Piggyback cord wiring for float switch

I don't know which float switch you have but even though they say they can handle high voltage it reduces their lifespan. You are better off using the float switch to turn on/off the low voltage side of your SSR. Here is my float switch, I use it to turn on and off the 12vdc that triggers my...

Home Super Brewery Build: Hybrid Electric/Gas 3BBL Build

With that large of a system you will need a walk in. I brew 25 gallons once a month and storing 5 kegs per batch is tough enough.

    Portable Barley Crusher (PBC)

I opened this thread, went to the bathroom, got a beer, came back and it still wasn't done loading.... It looks like it will work great for being portable. It seems to me it could have been done with one bucket though by mounting the mill on the underside of the lid. When stored the mill would...

help turning keg into brew kettle

I open carbonated kegs all the time to dry hop them. I brew 25 gallon batches so I have 5 kegs filled and pressurized. If it is a style that needs dry hopping I don't want to do them all at once or by the time I get to the last one it will be a waste of hops so I dry hop as needed. I relieve the...

    Another Keg/Carboy Washer!

It looks great but I have found nothing beats hot PBW to really clean kegs. I use my hose with a power sprayer to get most out before going to the keg washer to keep the foaming down. You are also missing the In/Out post connections...

Quick question about C02 tank and Ice

Co2 only turns to ice when being released into a low pressure environment, it won't freeze while under pressure in the tank.

    20 gallon batches...

I have 3 30 gallon pots and I would not recommend going with 20's for the HLT and MT. I can fit 75lbs of grain in my MT and when I do big beers I use 75lbs, I have no problem doing 20 gallons of a 1.038 beer either. I don't always use up all of the water in my HLT but there are times that I...

    Filtering before plate chiller -

I run off into a pot and then pump out of that into my chiller. As it runs into the pot it makes a whirlpool and whatever trub is in there draws to the center and I have my pick up on the side. I get perfectly clear wort into the fermenter this way.

    Rocket Stove Heating Element

I made a rocket stove out of an old turkey cooker pot and sawdust. I put a hole on the side at the bottom and put a pipe in it, also stood a pipe up in the center and packed it with sawdust. I removed the two pipes and lit the sawdust from the bottom hole and it drew air in as it burned. The...

    Sparge Arm?

I like this configuration because it flows free, it's easy to clean and spreads the liquid evenly.

    Rocket Stove Heating Element

The only drawback is flame control. If you see a boil over coming on there is little you can do about it.

anyone have 3 empty white labs yeast vials laying around??

I have over 50 vials but I'm making tape handles out of all of them for a 40 tap system and my home bars. I believe he wants to make these...

Questions about a single stage "STC-1000" controller

Your outlet has tabs that jumper the two of them together, you will break one side off. The on the switched side your black wire goes through the relay, the non switched side you will run a black wire directly to the socket you want power on all the time. Take this diagram and add another socket...

    Help with modifying kegerator

You can cut a hole anywhere in the plastic on the inside big enough to stick your finger through. Dig through the insulation until you feel the outer skin, if you move your finger around enough you will find the cooling lines and drill between them. I've done this on two fridges and it works...

    Keezer Controller in F?

If you really want F you can't beat a Ranco http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0015NV5BE/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20 EDIT: I just saw you want heat/cool which the Ranco won't do. There aren't many cheap options for that which is why everyone is buying the ETC-1000 and sticking a conversion chart next...

    Help with an STC-1000

It is sold on ebay as an aquarium controller but the manufacturer says it is an all purpose controller. The instructions say "do not use in wet conditions" but I'm sure that means the controller itself.
