    08-08-08 Russian Imperial Stout Exchange

paulthenurse needs to post a thread for his 8-8-8s. I just cracked open my first one and it is a really great beer. I must post reviews before I drink too much!! :D :tank: After tasting this, I'm very sad that mine went bad. Great recipe, Brewpastor!! :rockin:

    08-08-08 Russian Imperial Stout Exchange

Yeah, I only got shipments from 2 myself, but I'm not bothered by it considering my batch went bad so all I can send out is commercial stuff....(which I haven't done. :( ). Moving sorta strapped me so dropping $50 on beer and another $40 on shipping isn't fitting in the finance book right now...

    I Have Venison...Now what??

Overnight soak in this then grilled to medium rare. This is how I always do my venison steaks.

    08-08-08 Russian Imperial Stout Exchange

Well, my RIS is going to hit the bottles tonight and I'll probably be shipping Monday. Since I've bulk conditioned this for a solid 4 months now, I'm a tad fearful that there won't be any yeast to carbonate. I've never added yeast back in for bottling before. I have a packet of Nottingham in...

    WORST Non-homebrew you've had!

Are you a fan of Belgian Strong Ales? Delirium Tremens is a good one. I'm guessing you're just not a fan of the style. I've seen a ton of mentions of Miller Chill, which I refuse to try. Has anyone tried Miller Lite's new "craft beer" line? I think they make a wheat, amber, and blonde ale...

    WORST Non-homebrew you've had!

I'm lucky enough to have one of the worst breweries in existence right here in MN. Anything made by Gluek's is complete garbage. Here, you can see the awesome grades they've received at BA. The worst of the worst was Gluek's Light. Have you even taken a piss late one night and forgot to...

    LME vs. DME

Normally when you're adding DME you're still in the process of boiling. Any oxygen in the wort is expelled while boiling.

    apfelwien stinks!

Glad to be of help. I know other HBTers have helped me a ton. Hey! I've done that before.:drunk:

    Ambient/Spontaneous Fermentation

Somehow, I just came across this thread now. Landhoney, you rock. :rockin: I'm thinking the same thing. You should try and submit a write-up on this. This goes beyond the "barrel fermentation." This is truly a spontaneous ferment. Very cool.

Is this my first infection? (pic)

This looks like it could turn out pretty interesting. Hopefully I'll get picked to receive your beers for the swap, chriso. I'd be interested in trying one of these out. :D

    Bia Hoi

I've never tried, nor even heard of this beer before. I'm trying to picture what a beer that costs less than water tastes like though.... :drunk:

    LME vs. DME

$30 for 6.5 lbs. of LME seems a bit steep to me. You can buy 3 lbs. packs of Munton's DME from Midwest for roughly $11. Other than that, +1 on the whisk as well as staying away from LME if color is a concern for you. Also if the LME you are buying isn't really fresh you could start getting...

    apfelwien stinks!

I'll snap a picture next time I make one up. I am due for another batch of apfelwein so hopefully it'll be soon.

    apfelwien stinks!

Yep, the rhino farts are a sign of good apfelwein to come. There's a simple solution if you want to be rid of those nasty odors. Take a 20 oz. plastic pop bottle, a carbon hepa air filter replacement screen, and some duct tape. Cut off the bottom of the bottle, but out small circles from the...

    Hello, from Minnesota

There are a few Minnesotans on here that post regularily. I'm guessing the username changing capability could be a "paying member" function as well. /shrug Maybe a mod will have pity on you and switch it. :)

Yikes, I hadn't heard about this at all. Good to hear he's going to be ok. What a freak accident...and that was a LOT of blood....

    Leap Year Mead 2

I think I'm in on this one. I have an extra 1 gallon jug that I can use for this. I'm really curious how vanilla would taste in a mead. I don't know squat about vanilla beans so I'll probably go with that Madagascar deal at beanilla.com myself. As for honey, finding a local source in MN has...

    FG Reading

+1 on no bottling. You're asking for hand grenades if you bottle right now. I'd never plan to bottle a beer after only fermenting for 7 days. At the very minimum I'd give it 2 weeks. I normally bottle after almost a month. What's the reason behind you needing to bottle by the 13th? If...

    Does anyone really like IPA's?

I enjoy every style of beer that's well made. No matter the style you can find good and bad commercial examples. Even with a beer that focuses heavily on hops, there still needs to be balance in my book. I'm a huge fan of hop flavor, but not a huge fan of hop bitterness. That bitterness...
