    Temp variation on controller

I recently added a controller on my old fridge, and discovered there's a 4 degree variation between the setting on the controller and the actual temperature. And trust me, I checked it with several different thermoters, including digital. Obviously, if I know about it I can adjust for it...

    My first all grain

Thanks; I didn't think of it at the time. I was all caught up in the first-all grain, don't-screw-it-up, am i gonna clog the manifold, will this actually work, damn that smells good, moment! What do you use to stir with, btw? I have a long handled ss spoon, but I was thinking maybe I should...

    My first all grain

Yeah, my hubby has a burner like that. I thought about trying it for this batch, but it was so damn hot out I decided to stay inside with the a/c. On another note, I was fine doing partial mashes by myself, and could handle the kettles, etc with around 3 gallons of wort, but doing full boils...

    My first all grain

thanks; I often hear people talk about their efficiency, and wanted to be prepared to throw out a number. Maybe I'll just make it up for this batch :mug:

    My first all grain

First, thanks everyone that posts here, I do use the search and have found a wealth of information. Everything went pretty well, I just have a couple of followup questions for the experts. Details: - rectangular cooler mash tun with ss manifold (worked like a charm) - 7.5 gallon brewpot...

    beer=good investment

I received this in an email, sorry if it's old or if you've seen it, I thought it was funny. ----------------------------------- Just imagine... If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one year ago, you would have $49.00 today! If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in...

    sour peach wheat beer

still unsure on what went wrong with the batch, but it still has a definate sour aftertaste to me. Some tasters have described it as metalic. I can't drink it, but I'm not dumping yet, I'll give it some more time before trying it again. Or find someone that likes sour wheat beers....

    sour peach wheat beer

Babylon, do you mean it started out tasting sour (before bottling) and then turned out good? If so, how long before it was good?

    sour peach wheat beer

whyrat: yes, I used 3/4 lb of orange blossom honey. Thanks, I'll try to relax on the carbonation topic :mug:. As for the sour peach, that I'm not so sure about, only because it didn't taste all that great to me, with a definate sour taste. Especially after mikey_dawg said there was a strong...

    sour peach wheat beer

crap. I brewed on march 6th, transferred to secondary on 3/16 and bottled on 4/5. So about 3 weeks aging in secondary. I'm having a beer party on 4/30, so do you think there's any chance the peach will be less sour and the honey won't be too carbonated?? I don't know what I'm going to call...

    sour peach wheat beer

I made a partial mash - american wheat. The goal was to split and make 2 different brews (1/2 honey wheat and 1/2 peach wheat). I've made around 15 batches in the past of different beers, so I'd say I'm not a newbie but not an expert.... it is however the first I've tried adding honey or fruit...

    How long is too long

I've found a lot of discussions on how quickly we can drink our beer, my question is how long can I keep it. I know, I know... why keep it when you can drink it... For example, I brewed a Belgian Tripel in March, and it was suggested it could be kept for up to a year, and it would taste...

    separation in wort

I only noticed it in the glass (hopefully you can see the picture). I had already transferred everything from my brew pot to my primary, will this result in any off flavors?

    separation in wort

Yesterday I brewed a pseudo German Bock, using a German ale yeast. When I took a hydrometer and taste bud sample, I noticed that the wort separated pretty quickly in the glass. I don't remember any previous batches doing this, is this 'normal' or is something else going on...

    overflow

Thanks....when it overflowed, it made a mess on the top of the lib, and the inside of the grommet i'm sure, when I pulled it off to clean the airlock and put the hose on it. am i better off leaving it be, or trying to clean the inside of the lid hole?

    overflow

Another question... how long do I leave the hose on? It's slowed down from this morning, at this point i don't see foam coming through the hose, it's just the gas. I do see a few inches of foam coming up from the lid, into the hose. It's just not moving any further along the hose. Should i...
