    Amarillo first wort hopping

Has anyone done first wort hopping with Amarillo? Let me know your experiences if you've done it. If not, what are your thoughts on using this technique with Amarillo?

    2015 US Hops crop

Reading this thread makes me depressed about the availability and prices we pay here in Japan! You guys are so lucky!

    Marmite

There are a bunch of recipes online using vegimite. It'll basically be the same thing! The Aussies do it all the time apparently!

Toffees break my heart again. Martinez consistently under performs with the talent we have.

Over carbing (why does it keep happening)

As others have suggested, it would be a good idea to check your measurements again. Also, amount of time in primary isn't a substitute for taking gravity readings to figure out when a beer is finished. One last point, how much headspace in the bottles? Too much or too little can effect...

Jose sacked. Didn't see that one coming. ManYoo should drop VG now and make a go at getting Jose. That would be the coup of the century!

How important is clear beer to you?

And this reminds me of pretty much every thread on every forum where someone doesn't agree with an opinion but has nothing to contribute so they go after the poster instead.

How important is clear beer to you?

Do I cold crash? I used to, when I cared about clear beer. As I said before, I stopped caring about taking extra steps to get clear beer. It's not important to me... Does that mean the beer I make isn't clear? Not at all, basically nothing has changed since I stopped taking the extra steps...

How important is clear beer to you?

But if you don't need it then why use it? It's like an athlete winning a race while using steriods and then claiming he doesn't need steriods to win a race.

How important is clear beer to you?

Not trolling at all. It was an honest question. Obviously you don't suck since you can make clear beer without using those products. Furthermore, I like quite a few of the recipes you've posted and have one of them on my 'to do' list in the near future. The thing is, I used to care about...

How important is clear beer to you?

Can you make clear beer without using either of those products? If the answer is yes, then why use them? If the answer is no, then can you really claim your process if good?

How important is clear beer to you?

Are you suggesting that yeast is the only thing that causes haze? A quick comment about style: It's hard to create something unique when you lock yourself into thinking that the style of the beer is more important than the beer itself. For me, taste before anything else.

How important is clear beer to you?

Pointing to the practices of macrobreweriers as models for good homebrewing doesn't make any sense to me. As far as I know, many commercial breweries use those types of finings because it helps them speed up processing their products for distribution.

How important is clear beer to you?

There's a massive difference between clear beer, unclear (hazy), and beer with trub/crap floating in it. When I posted my question I was referring to clear beer vs. hazy beer. Do people really think using things like whirlfloc or gelatin is part of a 'good process'? You can have the worst...

    "It's a proprietary hop blend"

And that's a great way to go about it. Take an interest about show you know what you are talking about (=building a rapport). The OP just said the brew master came by and he asked about the hops he used in his IPA. That's not a good way to get someone to open up about their recipes.

    "It's a proprietary hop blend"

The problem I see is that the owner doesn't know you. It's the first time you've been to the place and you show up asking about ingredients... You say you're a home brewer but to him you could be the competition down the road. I don't blame him at all for not wanting to tell you. Personally, I...
