    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

If only Vardy weren't a racist ******* I could really get behind the Foxes. It'll be interesting to see where this season ends up. If only Everton could start moving up the table a little...

Also, about the entries, I thought one entry was three bottles of beer?

    Home brewing in Japan

Thanks for that. I was checking the website but haven't been able to find the entry procedures. Guess we'll have to wait. I was thinking of sending in a stout, coffee stout and IPA. I wanted to send in a smoked porter I made but it's still conditioning and seems like it's going to need...

Is a 90 min boil neccessary with only 5.5lbs of Pilsner malt

I use Weyermann Pilsner malt all the time and have stopped doing the 90 min boil without any problems. If you don't have the time then there is no need to worry about a 60min boil. I have no experience with other pilsner malt though...

    Home brewing in Japan

I'm thinking about entering. Hopefully I'll have enough time to get everything ready. The entry period is coming soon, isn't it... Tekton, thanks for putting this together. If you need any help, let me know. I have a little experience running online stores (specifically marketing and...

Everton are breaking my heart. We are the new Wigan thanks to Martinez. I don't think I can handle watching any more live games... especially if Howard starts. We're 19th in goals conceded in the PL. We had 21 PL wins in Martinez's first 38 games (an Everton record) and now just 18 wins in...

Submerging bottles in warm water for conditioning...

Yeah, I'm not too worried about the heater. I've got one with an internal thermostat and adjustable temp range between 18C-26C. It also has a very hard plastic safety case that keeps the heating element away from nuking fish or plastic (and in this case beer). I actually have a kind of...

Submerging bottles in warm water for conditioning...

Good point! So as long as I dry them thoroughly I should be able to avoid any rusting problems!

Submerging bottles in warm water for conditioning...

I'm not sure I'm using the same quality caps... or what they do once the bottles have conditioned (like putting them in a dry room or something)... next time I'm there I'll ask around!

Submerging bottles in warm water for conditioning...

I like those ideas. I need to find a place where the water from the hot spring is 70 and ideally under a bridge. I could call it Kappa-brew. As for keeping it at work... I'm not sure having cases of beer around university students would be a good idea!! I've got a bunch of Grolsch...

Submerging bottles in warm water for conditioning...

I may end up going this route but the only reason that I haven't is it would greatly reduce the number of bottles I'd be able to condition at one time. Good idea though

Submerging bottles in warm water for conditioning...

Has anyone tried submerging bottles in temperature controlled water to help with conditioning? It's winter here in Japan and not having central heating means the area where I usually bottle condition is only slightly above the outside temps (about 5C-15C). I know that a local brewery uses this...

Tips on adding coffee, vanilla, chocolate, walnuts

First make a stout. Then make a coffee stout. Then make a chocolate stout. Then start putting them together. It'll be much less of a crap shoot. You'll be able to figure out how much of what pleases your taste. You might get lucky just doing it all at one time but then again you might not. For...

Imperial stout...Stuck fermentation..Possible infection, need some advisple

I was just looking over the notes I had on using chocolate in recipes. The recommendation I've always gotten was to use it in the secondary for the following reasons: - bakers chocolate or anything not 100% cocoa contain oil or fats. These affect the head retention on a beer and the fats...

Imperial stout...Stuck fermentation..Possible infection, need some advisple

"I became suspicious so i tested ended up at 11 BRIX (i've sense baught a Hydrometer and it read 1030) thats only 5% or so ABV... no way not with a giant GB like that." You tested with a refractometer and got 11 BRIX then bought a hydrometer and got the same reading with alcohol present...

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

It's been 24 hrs and I've almost calmed down enough to re-enter society without murdering someone. It took a morning of beer brewing and an afternoon of surfing to help get over that robbery from last night. I'm not usually one to blame the refs either but this is one of those rare occasions...

    The [Horribly Unpopular] Soccer Thread

I'd be surprised as well if he went to MLS. I could see him maybe staying on as the backup at Everton and working mostly as a pundit... Which would suit him I think. He's made a huge contribution to Everton over the years and actually just played his 350th match with them.
