So who's worked in their main electrical panel?

It wasn't 40 volts, it was one side of the hot leg frayed against the outside of the fridge. No doubt I was getting 120v, but there was too much resistance to jump from me to the floor, or the rubbber-coated handles of the old fryolator baskets. But the fryolator was grounded through the gas...

So who's worked in their main electrical panel?

A loaded circuit is fighting the resistance of the circuit, which depending on the load and wire gauge could be substantial. Along comes someone to provide another path to ground and suddenly you've give the electricity another (perhaps easier) way to get back to Mother Earth. When resistiance...

So who's worked in their main electrical panel?

Why didn't the breaker trip? Was the box not grounded?

    BeerSmith 2.0

I bought it about 3 months ago and I'd have to say it continues to impress. Definitely worth the money I paid. I'd love to see a smart phone app and a hardware interface for real-time measurements/control over my PID.

    Kölsch Bee Cave Brewery Kölsch

On my 2nd atttempt I pitched with some washed slurry and in 7 days I was at 1.010 gravity. Into the fridge for about a week before bottling. I've never had a problem bottle carbing after cold crashing.

    I did not listen...

They're great, but that's all they can do. A step bit will give you 10-20 different sized holes whereas a conduit punch gives you only one for about the same price. I've got both step bits and conduit punches for work. If I didn't and I was only making 2 holes 1 1/4" max in a pot/sanke...

    Distilled water for rehydrate

For the first couple minutes re-hydrating yeast can't control their outer membrane. Compounded with the fact distilled water has no minerals to slow it down it will then rush in and bursts the cell. Distilled water kills cells. The osmotic pressure is too great.

    Trouble with Auber 2362 PID

Somehow after a couple water cycles it straightened itself out. I'm getting within a degree now.

Free freezer and now I want storage/lagering/fermentation control

I ended up buying a second fridge for 50 bucks (Pepsi fridge with a brand new compressor and fan) then putting a controller on it. Total cost was about $80 for a 2nd fridge that will hold 50F and 2 carboys. Too much but what the hey. Now I've got a chest freezer for serving temps and...

    98% efficiency. Is this possible?

I'm gonna be rich! Brewed again today. I verified my grain weight and in a few hours will know how close I get to the speed of light.

    98% efficiency. Is this possible?

I just hit an ungodly number too and know in my bones I've got an error somewhere. 9lbs 2-row 1-lb Munich 1-lb Crystal-60L 6 gallons with an OG of 1.06 would give me an efficiency of 111%, which of course would mean I've broken the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics. I've either discovered a...

What about fermenting 3 gal batches in 5 gal carboys?

I could see it being a problem in the secondary if the batch is pretty much fermented out, but there's so much CO2 being pushed out the airlock it must be completely blanketing the wort. I could see if you move your containers around a lot, but if you don't invade the space I don't see a problem.

How much Yeast Nutrient in a 1L starter?

So that's a teaspoon on the directions instead of a tablespoon...... Guess I've got another reason to guess why my starter is taking so long to get going. I'm guessing I added about 5x the necessary amount to my 2l starter. Such a large amount of what is basically salt will tend to slow down...

    Trouble with Auber 2362 PID

I've checked a bunch of thread and can't find an answer so I figured I'd ask in case anyone had a guess. After about a month and $1,000 worth of gizmos, I'm finally at the stage in my EBIAB where I'm trying to boil water. Right now I'm using an Auber 2362 with a RTD-PT100 sensor. The probe...

Need PID Help -Auber Instruments 2362

I've got the 2362 and put the rt100 in some ice water. I'm recirculating and the probe is mounted on a tee off the pump. I got a reading of 32F and verified with a digital kitchen thermo and a IR thermometer. Both read 32F. I heated the water up and the probe read 160F. My other two...

    Voltage test on PID/SSR

I had the same issue. I knew they passed a little current, but didn't realize they would pass full voltage. I checked, rechecked, pulled apart and checked again, then got to thinking it was a bad SSR. Then started thinking it was a current thing. I feel better about adding the contactors...
