Community Beer Company - Dallas, TX

I know Revolver does tours every Saturday at 12-3p. I had not heard of the Martin House yet. There seem to be more breweries on the Dallas side of DFW than the Ft Worth side.

If you could have any object turned into a tap handle, what would it be?

I just went and looked; there is no shortage of large parts. The weight of the cams ( I have one from my motor and one from a cam swap in my Dad's bike) is what worries me. I would have to find a way to make it loose some weight so as to not stress the tap too much. Other than that there are the...

If you could have any object turned into a tap handle, what would it be?

I already have a $3k coin jar made from one of the cylinders the last time the motor went down. The mechanic didn't install the wrist pin retaining clip correctly and it tried to bore its way to freedom. It almost got there. Now I have a coin jar made from a piston and cylinder. I'll have to...

We need to start a master list of the different breweries and tours available in Texas. I only know of a couple like Rahr and Revolver.

Dang that is a big bottle. Wish I wasn't stuck doing homework today.

If you could have any object turned into a tap handle, what would it be?

I have a parts box of blown parts from the couple of times I have rebuilt my Harley's motor. Wonder if anything in there would make a good tap; maybe a cam or something. I have a piece of .50 BMG brass that I managed to save over the years from when I was in the Corps I plan on using for a...

Current DFW and Austin Brew Pubs

You sir are a life saver. I have been trying to find someplace interesting to take my wife after the holidays and this place looks like it will work. A great benefit is that it is only a 2 hour bike ride there - she gets wine and I get a nice bike ride.

Community Beer Company - Dallas, TX

I have and had a great time on their opening day. So far my only complaint is trying to find it in more places. Try their other beers; the blood and honey really is a little different from their other beers. I really like their High Brass.

I'll have to put this brewery on my list to tour. I've been to Rahr, Real Ale, and Revolver.

That is a good looking keggle. GLWS

    cleaning used cornys

When I've cleaned kegs I have always rinsed the keg clean with filtered water two or three times after the last cleaning agent touched it; then air dried it till it was dry to the touch. I'm not sure you would want star san in the keg with the beer.

Question about buying a used keg for a keggle.

Wow; talk about leaving out a detail. There are always kegs on Craigslist; just keep an eye out for a good deal.

    Craigslist finds

Anyone needing some extra carboys? These are not mine; but I'll probably pick up one or two this weekend if he still has them. 6 Gal Glass Carboys - $25 (Weatherford) Any other good CL finds?

Question about buying a used keg for a keggle.

I don't think I would worry too much about how the previous previous owner acquired them. Just get the kegs and keep moving forward. As for cleaning them out; you'll just have to do some good scrubbing and maybe boil them out once or twice before brewing with them. Either way they will be...

    Cheap Kegs ?

I just scored a brand new keg (NIB) off of Craigslist as part of a package deal. Keep an eye on CL and you'll see good deals come up now and then.

    Standard AA Intro....

lmao; I'll have to pick up the new lingo then. Thanks for the heads up.

Newbie question - can I double a batch without issue?

You are right; if you double the amount of wort and not the amount of hops then you are going to have half the hops flavor. Since beer recipes are able to be scaled up or down; you have to remember to scale each ingredient the same amount or you have a resulting recipe that is different than...

    Standard AA Intro....

Thanks for the intro and I'll be sure to ask questions just as soon as I'm done going through the info here. Right now I'm having more equipment/setup questions than brewing questions. There is much to be learned... As always; Semper back.

    Standard AA Intro....

Not that I have done AA or anything... just a couple of weeks of classes while I was in the Marine Corps. :tank: I'm a former Marine (02-06) who is now home and living "the dream." I ride motorcycles, like to do metal fab work, off road my '87 Toyota 4Runner, and drink fermented or...
