    76 Ambient continuous fermentation

That is pretty warm for a stout no matter what yeast you are using Maybe look in a swamp cooler eta: porter or stout

The Second Tier: The Four Most Effective, yet Inexpensive Upgrades for Beginners

@bford Look into culturing yeast from bottles. There are quite a few commercial beers that you can harvest the yeast from, giving you both a yeast starter and good, style specific liquid yeast. Not to mention it is fun.

Cigar City maduro oatmeal brown clone attempt

I was just down in FL visiting and tried the CCB Maduro Brown and it was delicious. Good luck with your clone.

    Beer to Stay Away From

Pumpkin beers are awesome, but I will agree with you here. A Belgian wit is NOT the correct base beer for pumpkin and pumpkin spice. The Belgian yeast with pumpkin does not mix well :(

    Just not enough vanilla.... fix?

I'll also add for affordable vanilla beans, check out Ebay. You can get bulk packs for $.50 a bean.

    Never wash your yeast again!!!!

Depends on your goals. For me home brewing is just as much about saving money as it is about making my own beer.

    Just not enough vanilla.... fix?

Not an expert, but putting them in during the boil seems counter productive. I would have soaked them in bourbon for a week or more and then threw it all in a secondary for a few weeks.

What's up with the IPA fad?

I agree that I can see Sours becoming the new fad beer

    Miller fortune ad campaign

Would anyone expect anything different from AB/M/C? This is what they do, it's as if they are completely clueless. They are trying desperately to salvage their sales which are being ripped away from them by craft beers so they come up with a new, nasty, adjunct lager and give it a fancy name...

    Austin Homebrew Supply

Nope. I am with you. I buy almost all my kits from AHS, mostly because of the price and that you can individualize each kit and only order what you need. I don't want stuff "packaged" up with the kit that I don't need or want. I am really disappointed. This seems to have taken them from the...

    Austin Homebrew Supply

Not really liking the new website. You can't order by price and you don't see the price on the main page for the kits. Also, the prices went up by a few dollars each. AHS may be coming off the "go-to" list.

    Austin Homebrew Closed?

Why do the kits include dry yeast as a default and you can not remove it? WTF? Why limit options?, I don't want dry yeast. AHS is slowing coming off my list of go to's :(

    Flat Nut brown Ale

I only toasted them once for 10 min it clearly didn't do the job of getting the oils all out, the beer was complete nastiness, I had to dump it.

    Flat Nut brown Ale

I'll second that. I made a pecan brown with nuts and it killed any head and it tasted like nasty dishwater. I'll never use real nuts is the secondary again

It was a partial mash and temp was around 153 F

    Holy attenuation!

Not to hijack your thread, but I brewed a amber ale and used washed Wyeast American Ale. FG was .07 and expected gravity was .12. Beer is quite dry and the lack of sweetness lends to an overpowering bitterness. In the past this strain has always given me a FG of .12 to .14, why would it go so...

    Blonde Coffee/chocolate stout

AHS had a limited edition kit not too long ago which was a white (golden) coffee stout IIRC they used white coffee beans. I am sure they are expensive.

    White labs frozen

Why not just shake the wort up to oxygenate it the way you would with a full scale batch? Same thing. I use a growler and a bung and airlock.
