    yeast starter cooling question

    Hello everyone I am about to make a 1 liter starter..recipe is 32 oz bottled spring water to 4 oz of DME question is can i boil only half the water volume with the 4oz of DME and use the other half to cool it? Do i need to boil bottled water to sanitize it or is it already good to go?

    Now that i think about it,i believe its the same rubber as carboy stoppers.Only thing is it will be exposed to heat..maybe if i just boil a gasket then cool the water and taste it.Thats probably the only sure fire way to find out..thanks for you input

    I always use bottled spring water to brew..and i have the minibrew plastic conical fermenter..but thats not a bad idea to test the water supply cause thats what i use to clean and sanitize..yes i use dextrose not sucrose..I started with extract kits for the past 2.5 years no success..i thought...

    hmmm i am gonna put extra care into preventing oxidation even though i always do but now more then ever..but if its an infection i really dont think i can do more to prevent it i sanitize my gear and every single little piece very carefully.

    oh yeah never brew with lid on and always try to prevent oxidation..im pretty prudent with my brewing maybe i have psycho wild yeast in my house

    Yeah like i said before i cant quit this hobby if i wanted to..i really want to brew beer forever even though i never had a success yet..when i get my stainless conical..i will sanitize with heat ..maybe then i will succeed

    It starts with the "star san" citrus notes then finishes with a stale wine taste..did you ever get a wiff of an empty wine glass after its been drunk? like that ...and star san mixed with maybe a little vinyl/plastic thrown in ..very horrid stuff to drink

    i think i might be cause i seem like the only person who can taste it also smell it in my brew..im gonna try another sanitizer.
