    Guinness Nitro IPA

I guess I will buck the trend here. I think the Nitro IPA is quite good, and the nitro gives it a quality that reminded me of a hand pulled ale. Then again, I enjoy English beers and tend to dislike many of the over hopped american ipas that are on the market these days.

First AG Brew - Disaster? BierMuncher's Centennial Blonde

Sounds like a good first day. I wound up doing something similar on my first AG batch. I've done a bunch of extract brews and a few BIABs, but last Sunday was my first real all grain brew day. Its a cobbled together setup; a 48qt cooler mash tun, 5 gallon igloo water cooler for a hot liquor...

    My last batch of Beer!

Can you help me by posting a simplified explanation of what those of us with bad water should be adding to RO water for all grain brews, or posting a link to a simplified version? Thanks.

    Coopers English Bitter

Will give that a try next time I do a coopers kit. Thanks!

    My last batch of Beer!

I have to admit that I don't yet understand the intricacies of water analysis, but my first few batches, two all grain BIAB and one grains plus extract, were a bit on the astringent side. Found out the ph of my water was causing it, extracting tannin from the grains.. I switched to RO water...

    Racking boiling wort

This sounds like more work, and potentially dangerous work, than traditional chilling and transferring. Maybe I am missing something?

    Spiced winter ale question

Could you make a spiced vodka by steeping the spices in the alcohol and then add it to the keg to taste? If you could do that, could you also make a non spiced winter warmer, like Sam Smiths for example, and then add the spiced vodka to a growler or two, drinking the rest of the beer as brewed?

Would this work for a DIY wort chiller?

I made mine from 50 feet of 3/8" OD type L soft copper tube. They usually have rolls of it at the plumbing supply house for $35 or so. Then you can either use flair fittings to connect your tube or just buy 3/8" ID Tube and hose clamp it right to the copper. Don't forget to leak test it (I...

Why is commercial beer getting more expensive?

Don't forget the pending merger of the two brewing giants. The significant reduction in competition will lead to increased prices to the consumer. In addition, the craft movement and the sudden increase in the number of commercial breweries is leading to greater demand for the raw...

    Simple Yeast Storage Procedure

I tried this method for the first time yesterday. Pitched a jar of Nottingham that I harvested from a Nut Brown Ale into a Mild that I boiled yesterday, and I had activity in the air lock within three hours. Hoping for a good result.

    Guinness Nitro IPA

These were my thoughts exactly. Great beer.

    Computer Software

I use beersmith, and I have had good luck with it so far. I like the computer based version better than the app, but for the $, the app seems fairly robust.

To keg or not to keg??

I only filled my tank once in the last year (not counting my error in leaving it on my beer engine rig with the lid of the keg not sealed, emptying my bottle. lol) I also get my bottle filled at the local HBS and he only charges about $6 or $8 for as much gas as he get into it from a larger...

To keg or not to keg??

Cleaning the lines has not been an issue for me. When I sanitize a keg, I simply hook it up the the tap and run a gallon or two of star san through the system. To me, that is much easier than cleaning 53 bottles. I understand bottling specialty beers that need long periods for aging...

To keg or not to keg??

I used a regular 5 gallon corny keg for the one gallon batch.

To keg or not to keg??

I bottled a few early batches of cider, and that cured me. Went to keg for my first batch of beer, which was a one gallon all grain coffee stout that got me hooked on home brewing. I already had a kegerator, co2 bottle and regulator so the cost of kegging homebrew was limited to a used corny...

    Good summer extract

    Brewing on a budget

One gallon all grain is actually pretty easy, and they cost me about $8 per batch at my LHBS. I use a large cooking pot, Ice bath, a 2 gallon plastic bucket you can get for free at any grocery store bakery (cake icing buckets), $5 glass jug for secondary and a 12er of leftover bottles. Made...

    Favorite Extract Kit

Best extract kit so far was the Northern Brewer Hefeweizen with the Wyeast Weihenstephan yeast. It produced a really great beer.
