    Extract brewing is FAKE brewing

To be honest, it seems people are getting defensive because you and other commenters are being needlessly insulting to extract brewers. I was an extract brewer for years and have since gone BIAB 100%. I personally would not go back to extract, but I honestly do not believe you even brewed a...

American IPA BierMuncher's Outer Limits IPA

Wanted to add a shot of the beer held up to the light so you can see a hint of the beautiful ruby red color of this grain bill. In person it's much more impressive. Just brew it!

Tired of adjunct laden stouts. Let's compile a list of great stouts without adjuncts.

Interesting take on a dry stout. What do you find the Blackprinz adds to the mix?

American IPA BierMuncher's Outer Limits IPA

This is my first time brewing this and since the FG was designed to be slightly higher I Ended up using the following Hop schedule to get the IBU's up to 82: Hops Amount Variety Type AA Use Time IBU 0.5 oz Nugget Pellet 13.5 First Wort 12.97 1 oz Nugget Pellet 13.5 Boil 45 min 39.33 0.5 oz...

    Different types of head?

When I was doing extract I started steeping 8oz of carapils in every batch with the rest of the steeping grains and this helped head retention quite a bit. It will also add a small amount of body which extracts can often lack. Other than recipe additions like carapils, oats or wheat, you need...

Tired of adjunct laden stouts. Let's compile a list of great stouts without adjuncts.

I currently have this one on tap and it's a nice change of pace from a regular stout. More roasty and "stout-like" than your normal black IPA, but similarly hopped. The mix of heavy hops and heavy roast is interesting and welcomed. Hop God Method: BIAB Style: American Stout Boil Time...

Definitely counts and it is an amazing recipe. Thanks Yooper!

You've got it spot on. I edited the original post to clarify better.

Tired of adjunct laden stouts. Let's compile a list of great stouts without adjuncts.

My understanding was adjuncts consisted of things like maple, chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, oak, fruits, etc. Anything grain related like barley, oats, wheat or rye is still A-OK for a basic stout for this discussion.

Tired of adjunct laden stouts. Let's compile a list of great stouts without adjuncts.

After floating a keg of a chocolate oatmeal stout that I really enjoyed, I decided that I wanted to get back to the basics and have a year of making non-adjunct stouts. I want to taste the roasted notes, chocolate layers and coffee hints that specialty grains can bring to the table without...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

My 2nd try and this recipe followed the recipe exactly, except for using US-05 yeast instead of Nottingham and added 1oz of Cascade for dry hop. Came out delicious and also, one of the clearest beers I've made so far. Even Gary Coleman says it's clear!

Taking the Plunge...My Experiences of Going from Extract to BIAB

I'm a recent convert (5 batches deep) to BIAB full-volume mashes and all have been just as good, if not better than my best extract batches. Use good calculators for your mash temp and water volumes, insulate the mash-tun/kettle and off you go!.

If you use glass carboys...how do you carry them when full?

Milk crate is sturdiest but they take up quite a bit of extra space. I personally bought 3 or 4 of the Brew Haulers and have had no issues. Just make sure the belts are wrapped around the underside evenly and you're set. http://www.austinhomebrew.com/The-Brew-Hauler_p_820.html

Great results to my first stout!

I personally shoot for 2.0 volumes of CO2 in my stouts and porters. This equates to roughly 3oz of corn sugar in a 5g batch.

    show me your pully setup

I use a ratcheting pulley and bag set-up that I bought from The Brew Bag. The pulley mount is a simple folding/height adjustable ladder. Screw lifting this thing up by hand. Pulley is a very worthwhile investment if you've got something to hang it from.

    Oatmeal Stout Yooper's Oatmeal Stout

I turned this recipe into an "Extra Yoopers Oatmeal Stout" by increasing all aspects of the original recipe to achieve a tad over 7%ABV. After primary was complete (using Denny's 1450) I took 4oz of cocoa nibs and 2 sliced vanilla beans and boiled these in 8oz of water for a couple of minutes. I...

American Stout Hop God - American Stout

Just took a gravity ready last night and was at 1.012 so I added 1OZ each of Columbus, Willamette, and Chinook for dry hopping. The taste of the gravity sample after only 6 days is fantastic. I'm really looking forward to getting this one ready to serve.

American Stout Hop God - American Stout

I just brewed this one last night. Hit 1.062 OG after I made a couple of changes. Mainly replacing the 60m addition with Nugget and the 5m Apollo addition with Nugget as well. I also had 6oz of pale chocolate sitting around that I added to the mash as well to bring up the total pale chocolate...
