    Undecided on yeast

Dropping the cooled wort into the primary from a distance is not aerate enough? I read that a drill with a joint compound mud spinner would do? I feel afraid with a drill right over the cooled wort.

    Undecided on yeast

I admit being intimidated by this method since I never tried that. I would like to brew both batches (20 gallon pot) right after one another and get the 4 primaries in the temp controlled freezers so they are ready sooner then later. I messed up with my timings and will end up with no home brew...

    Undecided on yeast

I am getting a Belgium Ale OG 1.100 and would like your opinion on which yeast you would get, 500 Trappist Ale Yeast (White Labs) or 1214 Belgian Ale Yeast (WYeast). I will be using a stir plate starter. Last time I smacked 4 [1214 Belgian Ale Yeast] they all never really ballooned. Maybe an...

Dry or Liquid Yeast 11 gallons

Not quite sure I understand. Two liquid per 11 gallon batch I assume you mean? That calculates to 20 liters of starter. Unless "step it up" means something else. Did I mention I have only brewed four times (three with starter) as I am a newb.[/COLOR][/B]

Dry or Liquid Yeast 11 gallons

I did read the thread on dry vs liquid. Reading it makes me wonder why 99% of brewers don't use dry yeast. I want to make two 11 gallon batches of a 1.100 OG Belgium Ale. With a stir plate Mr. Malty says 8 vials/packs!! What would you experienced brewers do? I never used the dry stuff...

    DME vs Liquid

What are your thoughts on extract brewing using liquid or dry malt?

    Pouring wort to bucket fermenter

After your boil (10 gal batch) are you supposed to filter out the hops, orange peels etc to the fermenter or is that all poured out to the primary?

Blichmann boil screen for pellet hops

Just started brewing. Drank two batches and two waiting. I was under the impression the hops, orange peel etc are good in the fermenter no? I was thinking of buying the HB just so i don't get aggravated when it plugs trying to drain.

Control Products Dual Relay $60 Shipped on Amazon

Just bought two of these for two 14.8 cf freezers for my garage here in the Chicago area. I work with electrical all the time in my decorating business so i have outlets, boxes, 14 & 12 solid wire, caps and all lying around so this looks like a no brainer to me. Most important is everyone seems...

    BrewVint Alcohol Boost ?????

Why is it that AHB is the only one I have seen that has this "alcohol boost option" I used it one time on my first home brew a few months ago on a Belgium Tripel with no starter and it came out sweet. I have since used a starter on the next two. I am definitely in the learning newbie mode...

    Priming sugar or not?

Great info guys. The leak test with star-san was a great bonus! :) I checked my keg after 72 hours at 30psi and it needs more time. I purged and then set it at 13psi and will leave it for the next 10 days. That should do it. That was my first taste of my own home brew. :)

    Priming sugar or not?

I kegged two 5 gal batches Saturday night and cranked up the co2 to 30psi on both in the kegerator. It sounds like it will be a week before ready. Any reason to not touch it for a week before purging the co2 and setting it to 11psi (overall psi that gives me a good draw)?

    Priming sugar or not?

I have a complete CO2 beer fridge from Perlick. My very first home brew is about ready. Bypassing the bottling and going to the Corny kegs what would you guys do? Let the beer sit in the keg with priming sugar or force carbonate the keg? If force carbonate what is the best way for this?

My first starter for 1.094 OG

I went the rout of buying a 5000 ml flask and pitching in 3 WL yeast in 3000 ml of starter wurt. The flask has a ton of sediment on the bottom just sitting there. The stir plate is stiring but not enough to move much or little yeast on the bottom. The question is should it be stirring enough...

My first starter for 1.094 OG

What about using the stir machine? This was part of the kit.

My first starter for 1.094 OG

Just received a stir starter w/ 2000ml flask. I will brew two kits (10 gal) Stone Bitter Oatmeal Stout in my 15 gal pot. OG is 1.094 I have two WL English Ale 002 vials of yeast. Do I make a 2000ml starter with both vials or with one?

    Took your advice

A few said to visit the homebrew stores. This would at least be under "research" yes. :) Teromous, your point is well taken, better outside or in the garage boiling all this. Besides my wife will want me OUT not making a mess and taking up room (go to the garage husband). :) Anyone regret...

    Took your advice

I spent all afternoon going to the nearest home brew stores (75 miles), and did got as much info as I could. First store the clerk was just on his very first every brew. :( Second store I did get a clerk who's been brewing for a while but he kept yawning and every time he did that he emitted a...
