    Failed batch number 2

I am brewing from kits. I was stirring to aerate wort prior to pitching the yeast. Do I not need to do that?

    Failed batch number 2

Extract brewing I think I'm stirring yeast vigorously. Using large spoon and stirring for about a minute after pitching. Primary for two weeks. Secondary for three weeks. Bottle conditioned for 3 weeks. It was a warm winter ale kit from northern brewer.

    Failed batch number 2

We've been brewing for about a year, 5 batches. 2 really good brews, but the last two have not been good! I'm frustrated! The last batch took over two days to start fermenting and ended up with a "chemical" taste. We would like to try a yeast starter for our upcoming batch. Does anyone have...

    yeast starter necessary?

Is a yeast starter necessary? We want to brew great beer but what I've read is mixed. Some say you only need a starter if your brewing on OG of greater than 1.075. Thoughts?

    extract pumpkin ale

Hi all, brewing my 4th batch tomorrow night. Midwest pumpkin ale kit. I've read a lot of pumpkin ale threads and most talk about doing a mini mash. I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet. Any suggestions for my batch? Am planning to roast pumpkin with brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice. Put in a...

    yeast question

My husband ordered a kit with Wyeast liquid activator but forgot to order an ice pack with it. When it was delivered I put it in the fridge right away. Will it be OK? If it expands when I smack it does that mean its going to be alright? We plan on brewing Friday night.

    milk stout FG question

Our chocolate milk stout has been in primary for 2 weeks. OG was 1.056. Now its 1.022. Is it ok to add cocao nibs now and let it sit for another 2 weeks? I'm not sure what FG I'm aiming for. Help please, again. I don't know what I would without all of you out there :)

    no signs of fermentation yet.

I just brewed a northern brewer chocolate milk stout last night and I don't have any bubbling on my air lock. Should I be concerned or just be patient? I'm leaving town in the morning and am going to worry about it if I don't see any signs of fermentation. Aarrrggg! I need some advice please.

    adding clarifying agents/ finings?

About to brew batch #3. Going to skip secondary. It's a milk stout. Should I add anything to help with clearing or just leave it alone in the primary for 4 weeks?
