Cascadian Dark help - Does this look ok?

Looks like my LHBS doesn’t carry any sort of Carafa. Any thoughts on a substitute? He does have black patent.

I hadn't done one, but I just tried and yes. Extract as well.

    Iphone app

+1 to Alchemy. I've messed around with it a bit, and like it a lot. I recently purchase the full version for my Mac too. The wireless sync function is great. I did like it stand alone as well though.

    fermentation question..HELP PLEASE!

It's probably just entering the conditioning phase. It might be a case of RDWHAHB. Hard to do though (I know, I'm new too). I found a lot of good info on fermentation on howtobrew.com. It has a good rundown on the different phases of fermentation, but sometimes gets a little technical (at least...

    Cheap and easy aeration gadget

I swear someone ran some numbers on that and found them to be about equal. I cant find it though, so could just be talking out of my backside. Either way, it is a whole lot easier than picking up 5gal of wort and dumping it.

Cascadian Dark help - Does this look ok?

Thanks for the input guys. The consensus seems to be to bump up the carafa a bit (4% sounds like a good round number). As for the hops, I think I’ll take jmo88’s advice and get rid of the 40m addition, add enough to the 60 to maintain the IBUs. The remainder I will put into more...

Cascadian Dark help - Does this look ok?

Hi guys, I've been working on a Cascadian Dark Ale, and was hoping for some feedback. I took the grain bill from modernlifeisANDY's excellent looking None More Black recipe, and just upped the numbers to give it a slightly higher OG. The hop schedule is my own, I'm wanting to create a very...

Will a half full carboy oxidize my beer??

Wow man, that looks really nice. I think I need to get into some dry-hopping. Sorry, thread hijack.

A quick go at a label.

    Brewery names--what's your story?

So far I've been going with "Both Hands and a Flashlight Brewing", because I'm just starting out (i.e., I couldn't find my own a@@ @@le with both hands and a flash light). No logo yet, I'm a little scared to try and put one together frankly.

    Hello all

Welcome! This site has great info, and the people are helpful. Im just starting out myself, but the first thing I'd recommend is read John Palmer's online How To Brew book. Awesome resource. Welcome to the addiction, hope you're ready to disappear down the rabbit hole!

First screw up... boy.. with pic

And I'm raising a glass of homebrew in salute. You'll forgive me if I don't "pour some" for my fallen hommie. This stuff's too good.

First screw up... boy.. with pic

Certainly a lesson for me. I'm grabbing a couple of straps when I hit my LHBS next.

I've only got two under my belt, and this kind of thing keeps me up at night. Perhaps I should get a swamp cooler, rather than put it on my hard concrete floor.

    Beer Aeration Idea

There are a couple of threads here about in-line gravity fed Venturi aeration systems. I just built one myself, but have yet to test it with wort, so cannot give a solid recommendation. Given the very low cost of the homemade Venturi it may be worth a shot.
