Mini-Mash and temps while Steeping Grains

thanks for the reply. keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get an astringent off-flavor. Good news is the airlock was bubbling like crazy when I checked on it at noon today :rockin:

Mini-Mash and temps while Steeping Grains

Doesn't look the boil on the propane burner is gonna get all hurried and crazy like it did on the stove. Turn your back on the stove for 20 seconds and boil over. The propane burner seems much more relaxed. Don't have to stay right on top of it constantly. More time to sip a cold one...

Mini-Mash and temps while Steeping Grains

one thing I have noticed as i am trying to reach a boil is it takes longer on my propane burner than it did on my stove top. However, with that said, I am doing a 3.5 gallon boil instead of 1.5 or 2... Boil should start momentarily :ban:

Mini-Mash and temps while Steeping Grains

thanks for the reply, but my oven will not hold my pot from the propane burner kit (actually a turkey fryer). Next time I will heat up to about 170 then cut off the heat and add the grains after it has cooled down 5 or 10 °F... I assumed it would be okay... Looking forward to a Vanilla...

Mini-Mash and temps while Steeping Grains

I got started brewing again today after about a year off... I did my partial boil and mini-mash outside on a propane burner for the first time. I bought a Vanilla Porter kit from AHBS and was supposed to steep at 45 mins @ 155 °F. However, I did not turn off the heat on my burner...

    Question about brewing outdoors

I have brewed 4 batches, always on my stove, in my apartment. Haven't brewed in over a year, but now I own a house and a new outdoor gas grill with side burner. Getting ready to start a new batch weekend after next... Has anyone used their side burner on their outdoor grill to boil their...

    Austin Home Brew Kits

The kits that I have bought from them are not exactly as you describe. All grains are in one bag. But, the instruction sheet tells you the amounts and kinds of grains included.

    Grolsch bottles

:D It's not the best beer (but not terrible either) and I was definately tired of them once I drank that much, but it's paying off now... :rockin:

    Grolsch bottles

I did not realize the new ones use silicon. Great news. That means even less maintenance... :ban:

    Grolsch bottles

I drank a lot of Grolsch to build up my bottle supply... If you consider the cost of almost $20 for 12 16 oz flip top bottles from my LHBS it was worth it. Three four packs of Grolsch roughly $28-29 dollars minus the cost of new empties and I got each 16 oz's of Grolsch beer for 80 cents...

    Words you never hear

Not really Words you never hear, but Steven Wright's humor and original post made me think of him. my original post was his and so are these... What's another word for Thesaurus? Why is the third hand on a watch called the second hand? Why do they use sterile needles for lethal...

    Pumpkin Ale after 1 week

well i am still a beginner, only 4 brews finished... however, i wouldn't think just adding pumpkin to a wheat would not do you quite right. my kit had nutmeg, cinnamon and a very nice addition of some Mt Hood and Cascade hops.... The hops really make this beer, if you ask me...
