    Mandarina Bavaria saison?

Sounds like a French/German IPA. Looks like you're getting the best of both words in what you're looking for. Looks great. I just did an IPA with MB hops which is fermenting now. I have been told those hops are subtle. So I added a pound of them for a hop stand at 170*. Since its so young I...

    Mandarina Bavarian Hops.... and...?

Welp, I ended up bittering with .25 oz of warrior at 60, 7oz Amarillo at 5, 6.5 oz Amarillo, 8oz mosaic, 16 oz mandarina at 170 hop stand. I cant find anymore mandarina (only 2 oz left at rite brew, which I ordered), so the dry hops will be mosaic, Amarillo and the minimal mandarina. I haven't...

What should a new brewer SMaSH?

when I first started brewing, after 2-3 AG batches under my belt, I went to Revolution in Chicago. They had a SMaSH called Kemps Landing which was stellar. Vienna and Columbus was what they used. So considering what cswis86 said, there is more to it then just the SMaSH. Yeast plays a huge role...

    Mandarina Bavarian Hops.... and...?

Hey- I'm doing an IPA tomorrow and I have a pound of the Mandarina hops. This is a 10 gallon batch, and I love juicy IPAs. My plan was to pair these with Amarillo or Mosaic or both. I have Citra too. my plan is to do two total pounds of hops on brew day. I want the orangey flavor. However...

    Contamination over-thinking

Just an update, for anyone who has a similar occurrence: I ended up doing a modified ESB, pitched the yeast and waited it out. The beer came out just fine. No hint of off flavor. very drinkable, caramely and a hint of citrus. Thanks for all the help. Brew on! :mug:

    Feedback on Imperial IPA recipe

I am really with the above posters. Don't waste those expensive Galaxy and Mosaic hops simply for bittering. Unless, of course, you have a reason to do so. And I love the wheat idea. I was skeptical on wheat at first, but my last few IPAs have included it, and they turned out fine. No more than...

    Equipment upgrade time

Is it settled then? Because I can just measure mine and let you know how tall it is. I keep mine on a 2-tier table. I take the top tier off when I brew and assemble the system. On Sunday I achieved 85% efficiency. I want to say its probably 4.5 feet when its all together. I have a vent hood...

I was actually thinking about doing just that. A simple smash or something.

    Equipment upgrade time

I scanned the posts, and I didn't see any mention of it, but how about a Blichmann Brew Easy? its a 2 vessel system, has a 240v boil coil and you can do 15 gallon batches with a 15 and 20 gallon pot. some places even have turn-key systems. so if you have the wiring all ready to go, this would...

    Contamination over-thinking

The yeast was about 2 months old... Calculator said 65% viable. BTW, its still spinning away. I just let it go because I am so on the fence. The pitcher sat in the basement where the brewery is for a while. I washed it... like 2 weeks ago and let it hang out on the drying rack. When I made the...

    Contamination over-thinking

Sounds like i'm in good company. I think i'm going to dump it. If it were simply the yeast that dripped off the pitcher, that's one thing. But it was wort. I am sure some sort of fermentation had started, but it couldn't have been much. And there was a lot of wort that just clung to that damn...

    Contamination over-thinking

So I am planning a brew day this weekend and was going to do a stout. According to the calculators, I needed to do a 2 step starter. I usually do a starter in a 1500ml pitcher, however I ordered a 2000ml flask which was to be delivered today. Knowing this, I did my first step starter in the...
