Can you Brew It recipe for Fish Brewing Leavenworth Eight Mile Alt

Here is my revised recipe. My beer turned out darker and way more caramel/malty tasting than I remember leavenworth eightmile alt. I should've known better than to use 5lbs of liquid malt extract and expect this beer to turn out to be 15 SRM. I'm pretty sure they use at least a bit of "dark"...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

May I have the recipe? I'm helping a friend of mine put together his (and mine) first all grain recipe and he's doing an American wheat beer with an orange and honey aspect to it, but no coriander.

Cold crashing - will my bottles carb up?

1 week is to early to expect full carbonation with any beer. I agree with not adding the full 4.5 - 5oz that most priming sugars are sold in. I like my stouts, or any beer above 7% to be on the less fizzy side.

    Two new hops!

I'm brewing this next Friday. I'm hoping it turns out to be a pretty good summer session pale ale. I'll let you guys know how it turns out. I'm just hoping the nelson doesn't overpower the summer hops though. Batch Size: 5 gallons (fermentor volume) Boil Size: 3 gallons Est. Efficiency: 65%...

    why not use carapills?

I'd only use carapils in low gravity beers so that they aren't like water. Or in some IPA's that have a (relatively) low gravity to give the beer more body without having to increase the abv.

American Pale Ale Citra Pale Ale

I started off planning to brew this recipe, but it morphed into this... Batch Size: 5 gallons (fermentor volume) Boil Size: 3 gallons Est. Efficiency: 65% (brew house) ESTIMATED STATS: Original Gravity: 1.052 Final Gravity: 1.012 ABV (standard): 5.25% IBU (rager): 37.91 SRM (morey)...

    Mosaic Cluster Fuggle APA

I'm planning a pale ale right now with fuggle and mosaic hops as well. Your recipe seems to be more of an IPA than just a pale ale. I would either bring the ABV up, or lower the IBUs. And I would definitely dry hop.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm bottling a leavenworth eightmile alt clone, and racking my tripel to the secondary. I'm planning on brewing a weissbier soon for my friend's birthday, but I fear that I won't have enough bottles to put it in, having brewed 2 other batches so close to each other.

    Moving fermenting beer for bottling

Depends on how steady you can carry the fermentor. I am strong enough that I can hold the fermentor pretty steady as I carry it around so I don't really have to worry about sloshing air into it or stirring up the trub. Also, my secondary is a plastic fermentor, so that makes it a lot easier.

    Extract kit tastes weird

As someone else said, it probably has most to do with the yeast that comes with the mr. beer kits. I started with mr. beer and honestly I don't really think it's worth it. If you love beer enough to take the time to brew it, then you might as well invest a little more time and effort to brew...

    Tripel IPA Partial Mash

So after 5 days in the primary, I'm still getting a bit of airlock activity. Most beers I brew stop most airlock activity after only 3 days and clear up for the most part by day 4. I will definitely stick with my plan to keep this in the primary for a full 2 weeks, and then 3 weeks in the...

Imperial Nut Brown - Add LME late?

The reason someone would suggest doing a late addition is because bittering hops will work better if the wort is at a lower gravity, and has less malt extract in it. This can actually make a pretty huge difference in some cases. I use the brewersfriend .com calculator and you can put recipes in...

    yeast starter=pain

How much water and DME did you use? I just brewed a tripel so I made a starter for the first time. I used 1 liter of water and 3/4 cup of dme. i didn't even notice the fermentation, but it was in a brown glass growler and only sat overnight so fermentation probably started and stopped during the...

    Aerating the wort

Sometimes I aerate my wort by using my siphon and just pumping air into the primary. Probably isn't as effective as just rocking the fermentor back and forth.

    dry hopping

Some people will swear by not using a secondary while, others will say that you should use a primary because leaving the beer on top of yeast for extended durations can put off flavors into the beer and will hinder the effectiveness of dry hopping. Retailers recommend it probably because they...

    How much is too much?

I took another look at the article, and yes 3 drinks will give you a net result of 0 minutes added or subtracted. This number are arbitrary though. Everyone is affected differently and they are just making a point. Always in moderation. It has to do with the antioxidants and certain nutrients...

    How much is too much?

It's hard to accept that but you're right. Even with all the different studies on drinking and alcohol, science pretty much agrees that 1 - 2 drinks is healthy, but drinking beyond that has negative health effects. Denying that is like denying global warming. I just read a study the other week...

    How much is too much?

As far as alcoholism and all that, I'd say more than 3 beers a night, every night, is probably not a good habit. Sure there are functional alcoholics, but all it takes is a mid-life crisis, or the death of a loved one for 2-4 beers a night to spiral into full alcoholism. I've seen it happen...

    My First Brewing Disaster.

When I had my first blow off, I used my siphon tubing and it turned out to be a bad idea because the tubing took on a greenish yellowish color so I was worried about contamination with future batches. Anyway, now it's my dedicated blow-off tube but I still sanitize it before use. They're really...

Where is the best place to buy ingredients on the web?

I've bought from northern brewer, rebel brewer, austin homebrew supplies, and midwest supplies. I've also experimented with the others but never purchased. Brewmaster's warehouse is also very good from what I hear. NONE of these places will be significantly cheaper than you LHBS. Any savings are...
