    better bottles

they say the BBs are "almost impermeable" to oxygen... is there any chance of it imparting any tastes from the plastic or possibly allowing oxidation?
  6. jrakich87

Would you bottle if your hydro looked like this?

HAHA I did the exact same thing! Gotta drink those stones while brewing to use for bottling the batch!

    crash cooling and overcarbonation?

as far as temp, If I enter it as say 70 in the calc, it'll tell me to use 3.5 oz... won't the temp rise as activity starts again? do I need to keep it at 70 to prevent overcarbonation? or overestimate the temp in the calculator in anticipation of a few degrees rise?

can I do a 5 gal primary ferment in a 6 gal better bottle? can I take it all the way thru fermentation just with the BB and not transfer at all for 2ndary?

    crash cooling and overcarbonation?

I was wondering, is there a negative correlation between crash cooling and overcarbonating bottles? I thought maybe the extra yeast settling to the floor would mean there's less CO2 produced in the bottles? Or is the amount of priming sugar a much stronger factor? On that note, is using ME...

    almost at FG?

How likely is it that it'll be overcarbonated from unfermented sugars? Is that a real concern or do I not need to worry if I leave it a week?

    24oz used bottles

My kit came with only 24 bottles, so instead of ordering another 24 I have been saving Arrogant/Double Bastard and Imperial Russian Stout 24oz-ers for the last week or so and thought it'd be fun to bottle half in those. Is it fine to use them if I clean them well and sanitize and make sure to...

    almost at FG?

2-3 weeks more in primary? I was a little worried that there'd be a chance of infection since I opened it up last night and there was no foam or anything, it all sank back into the beer already... doesn't that mean CO2 isn't pushing out and preventing nasties getting in thru leaks? or am I paranoid

    almost at FG?

So I did a reading last night and I'm at 1.014, the target for my amber ale is 1.011-1.013 so I'm fairly close... It's only been in primary since wednesday, but the heat got outta hand and it took off hard and fast. I'm guessing everyone will tell me not to take a reading for a while? I was...

Am I insane?? Brewing is ALMOST more enjoyable then drinking

I'm on my first batch and I think it's F*ing AMAZING that I am employing hundreds of BILLIONS of microorganisms to make me beer! I mean, how big is 5 micrometers??? can any of us even comprehend that? The fact that there's a tiny organism that turns sugar into alcohol and even CARBONATES the...

    WAY overcarbonated brews- HELP

ok, that calculator told me to use only 3.52 oz.... nowhere near 3/4 cup... is that the accurate measurement for me? I didn't fully understand the "desired volume of CO2" slot but just put the amount (2.2) that it said for amber ale.

    hefeweizen

I'd steep them first... start off slow... I think I'm gonna stick to extracts for a few brews to develop some proficiency before moving on too quickly
