    Fermenter next to the toilet: is my beer ruined?

    swmbo - She Who Must Be Obeyed Im no expert, but a primary next to the toilet...there is way to much bacteria floating around in the bathroom specially there. I wouldn't trust it.

    Im using 1 Step, would it loose its effectiveness if I made a gallon up and stored some in a spray bottle? Thanks.

    crazy airlock action!

    There must be something in the air... mine is doing the same thing and I have a 1 piece airlock. It was to late when I noticed to go buy a 3 piece, so I'll have to baby sit this tonight.

    Am I wrong?..

    I wasn't sure if leaving em in when pouring into the primary would affect the flavor like giving it to much of a hop taste or not enough if their strained. Now I just sit back and wait. Thanks again for the help!

    Am I wrong?..

    Brewing from an extract kit, am I wrong to strain the wort from the pot to primary? To make it a little more clearer, the grains were steeped for 25 mins in a bag, then removed. Then started the 60 min boil. The hops is what I strained while pouring into the primary.

    Hydrometer off?

    Got my first batch of red ale going this Tuesday. After the wort was cooled down, I aerated it as I pitched the yeast. Took the hydrometer reading after is stopped swirling and it came out to 1.044. According to the directions, I added 1 because the room was at 70 degrees...readings on the...

    ...when to start

    Ok... just bought my kit yesterday. The 6.5 gal fermenter, bottling bucket Ale Pails, and everything that comes with it. Along with a Brewers Best Red Ale kit. When will be a good time to start this?.. We have a vacation to Vegas planned on 2-12 to 2-17. The pail is going into a laundry tub...

    Removing labels.. baking soda!

    Baking soda works! A 3 - 4 hour soak in a sink mixed with Palmolive sprinkled with baking soda mixed in, a quick scratch off with a butter knife then finish up with a Scotch Brite pad..at least it works on Great Lakes Brewery bottles.

    Pails...carboys..???

    Thanks for the advice! It'll sure come in handy.

    Pails...carboys..???

    Obviously I'm new to this so sorry if this had already been asked. What route should I go... a pail for primary and carboy for secondary..or can secondary be done with an additional pail.. or should I go with two carboys? Also, can I get opinions on using Brewers Best ingredient kits...
