How many gallons of homebrew in 2011?

    29514.5 + 5 fresh hop + 5 oatmeal stout + 5 brown ale = 29,529.5

    Oatmeal/Coffee/Chocolate Stout

Mmmm, that sounds so good!! The recipe I just brewed, a plain old oatmeal stout, called for mashing the grains for 45 minutes at 155 F. I just bought a big nylon bag (I think it was $7) like it calls for in BIAB and put it in my pot while I heated the water to 160. Then I dumped the grained in...

    12 oz bottles--16oz glasses

I wish I had that problem. Our glasses are too small by at least 2 ounces, maybe more like 3 or 4.

So, What's Going to Happen With the Wrong Wyeast?

Um. Could someone delete this? I got this confused with a recipe called Irish Red Ale, and when I saw the name of this packet, naturally I assumed I had bought it for the Irish Red Ale. But when I just double-checked the recipe for the stout, and checked the characteristics of the Irish Ale...

So, What's Going to Happen With the Wrong Wyeast?

I'm definitely not going to dump the beer or anything like that (!) but I'm trying to brace myself for whatever surprise awaits me. I pitched an Irish Ale Wyeast into an oatmeal stout. This is the second time this has happened and I've only brewed four times! The first time it was because...

    Fresh Hop Brewing

Do fresh hops impart a different flavor/aroma? A friend who knows someone who has brewed with them talked almost like it might be an acquired flavor. If I like dried hops in beer, am I going to like fresh hops in beer? I've got a bine worth of hops, by the way, that I'm going to brew with this...

    LHBS Prices... Why So Expensive?

I go about 20 miles (one way) to get LME for $1.75 (the going rate elsewhere locally is $2). They are cheaper for most other things, and I usually end up buying multiple batches plus equipment while I'm there. They have the same wine corker I was looking at at my more local LHBS (~4 miles...

    Fresh Hop Ale Recipe Critique?

    How'd this turn out?

HOMEBREW COST - The Addiction: My $$$ Per Pint

From the top of my head, it's cost me about $300 for three fermenters and all the necessary equipment (except bottle capper, I'm still borrowing one), six batches of beer and a batch of apfelwein. That's about $8.75/gallon.

    Warning signs of homebrew addiction

When you dream about brewing beer for four nights in a row before you actually get to (that was my first time). I don't know if the addiction began before I started, or what...

    How long in primary

Does anyone not rack their mead?

    most drinkable carlo rossi??

If you buy apple juice (I bought Knudsen, which was ~$7), you can use it to make applewine. I bought two gallons and added that to three gallons of Apple Top. I have five gallons of apfelwein and two gallons of mead in the closet :D

Is my beer bad? Appreciate your thoughts

That's a bummer. Here's to better brewing in the future :) And you might want to just leave the lid on the batch you're doing now. Less chance for nasties to get in there :) It'll turn out the same (or better) even if you don't taste it, and if you only give it one taste right before bottling...

Conditioning Lager Fermented at Ale Temp

I'm finding it does help some, even sans fan (I've never tried a fan on it). It's 85 in here and 72 in my bucket with a wet blanket on. The apfelwein, which does not have a wet blanket on it, is almost 78. It takes electricity to make ice, too ;) Either the ice makers' or yours.

So I'm going to break the patience rule...

We finished off our green beer in two weeks. Oops :P Except I did keep four, and I have two in the fridge that I'm going to drink shortly here (2+ months) and there are two in the closet that I'll have somewhere around 3 months. I'm trying to keep up the pipeline even though I only have one...

    swing top bottles

Oh, I found these at the grocery store - $2.99 a piece (US). I wish I knew someone who bought them, because I would certainly pay them half of that for each. I'm going to buy them on the day of the month they have 10% off for students and dump it all out. I wish it was something I would actually...

    My Homebrew Vid

Ooh! That's possible. I poured it over ice (I know it's not considered up-and-up, generally speaking) and sort of rocked it around once it was closed. I didn't even think of mixing it up at that point, since I had aerated it by pouring the wort from a fair height. Bother. Will it mix...

    My Homebrew Vid

I'm not sure where to post this, but I brewed (and bottled!) and videotaped yesterday while my husband watched our 8 week old daughter :) Brewing with Bonnie Cheers. I would have been drinking homebrew while I brewed but I'm all out :( I spent $14.37 for this batch. What do your LME recipes...

    Added Priming Sugar, Got Sick

Spot on! We really need to get the next batch going :D It is a wheat, actually. I'm just getting into this and have already spent this month's brewing budget on a SS pot. And for those of you who wonder how it works, it's just a 6 gallon pail. I have two of them for fermenting in...

    Added Priming Sugar, Got Sick

Exactly. I would rack to a bottling bucket but I don't have one since my "bottling bucket" is basically just another 6-gallon pail. I just gently stirred the sugar in. And I did use 3/4 cup, or around 5 oz.
