    Unreliable water

Using distilled is certainly an option, and I've been looking at different calculators to try to determine what I would need to add to get me to decent brewing water. Unfortunately, I've gotten inconsistent results from calculator to calculator. Would this recipe work using distilled water and...

    Unreliable water

My tap water is very unreliable as it comes from multiple sources. Sometimes it comes from a water treatment plant through a pipeline, and sometimes it comes from the city's well. I have a charcoal RV filter and still use campden for chlorine. The problem is that if I use my tap water (both...

    Need some HBT advice

I agree with the first reply. Just get some more fermenters and start brewing. As far as keeping it cold, it's early in the year so I personally wouldn't worry about it. Just put it in the truck and go.

    forgot to prep my starter

I agree. A yeast change will have more impact on flavor than an underpitch. Toss it on the stirplate and happy brewing!

    American Lager

Oh, i forgot - i pitched 30% over what the mr malty calc came up with. Erring on the side of overpitching seemed like a safer bet for this particular beer. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    American Lager

Well i just cracked the first one and it's a pretty typical american lager. No off flavors. Looks, smells, and tastes like it should. Mission succesful. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Northern brewer american wheat

Tomorrow i am brewing NB's american wheat: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/american-wheat-beer-all-grain-kit.html I'm shooting for something my BMC inlaws will enjoy. Looking at it in beersmith, it seems a bit hoppy (around 30ibus). Before i reduce the hops, im hoping someone will chime in...

Single Hop Extract Brewing 10 gals

I have not, and in your case i would not. I like to do a full boil or at least very close to it. In your case i would do 2 boils. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Beer bottled without priming sugar

I have no idea what you brewed, so this idea may not be suitable for your beer style but its worth mentioning: this could be a great time to do some experimenting. Like prime some with corn sugar, some with brown sugar, some with maple syrup etc. just a thought! Sent from my iPhone using Home...

    Late addition of Extracts

I add the bulk of my extract at flameout and have no issues with nasties. I've done as little as 1lb during the boil with the rest at flameout. I usually mix my flameout additions with 1 gallon of top off water do it's super easy to add and speeds cooling. I typically stick to .75lbs per gallon...

    Brewed my first ever beer!

I've put together everything I have on a budget. A turkey frier was one of my best investments. It's not terribly pretty (aluminum kettle) but it allowed me to do full boils of 5 gallon batches. I bought it at Menards for like $60 (kettle and burner). Congrats on picking up the addiction!

    Fermentation stopped

Without knowing more (mash temp, yeast, recipe) it sounds like it's done. I don't know for sure what you mean by "I'm supposed to transfer to my keg today". If you are going by a calendar schedule, do yourself a favor and forget about that. The yeast is done when it's done. But yeah, three weeks...

First lagger, SQ and FQ are the same! What happened?

What yeast was it? I would bet you under pitched (lagers need much more yeast than an ale) and with the cold lager temp it never started until warming it some. Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Super duper late addition.

I normally add a big portion of my extract at flameout. I've never added it after chilling, but I bet it would work just fine.
