    My Homebrewpub (WIP)

I had a grinder pump installed in a sump pit when the house was built. I had plumbing run in/under the concrete floor for the bathroom. The beer room sink and the bar sink are within 10' of the grinder/lift pump, so all I had to do was plumb them into the pump. All of the drains aren't done...

BJCP Exam Tips - LONG post

Took the exam on 12/5/09... still no results. I'm not going to raise a stink about it unless I get to around the 9 month mark and still haven't heard anything. I was in a group with maybe 20-25 others. 5 or 6 of which were only doing the tasting portion.

    Bock style without lagering?

You could always try the hybrid yeasts (WLP036 and WLP810). I've used both in the low 60's and while they're fairly clean, they're not as clean as a true lager yeast.

    Noob question about flameout additions...

Agreed. Even adding it in the last 5 minutes would be fine.

    First batch tasted!

The first batch always tastes great. I think my first batch was gone before it had even been in bottles for 3 weeks. :D

Home Brewer V.S. Snobby food Critic.....we won

Great story. It still always amazes me that people have this image of home brewers just being a bunch of drunks making cheap swill.

Northern Brewer Blog says you shouldn't Vorlauf.

Everyone does things a little differently when they brew, so articles/blogs like this are pretty common. Using HSA as an argument against a vorlauf seems pretty weak to me though. I do agree on the author's other point, though. I never rehydrate dry yeast. I've never seen a real benefit in...

two packs of dry nottingham or pacman yeast cake for IIPA

I don't see a problem with either, actually. I've never used the pacman strain, but I've had pretty good success pitching on yeast cakes in the past. FWIW, I once had a single pack of Nottingham take an IIPA from 1.090 to 1.008. If you're going to go with the Notty, I'd recommend 2 packs for...

    NHC 2010, are you entering?

Indeed. Congrats to everyone who is advancing. It's not small feat, and there appears to be an abundance of HBT members who will be anxiously awaiting results in June. Good luck to you all - except those of you who have beers in 16... I hope you all lose. :D I wish I could have entered more...

    Blimey's Brown Porter

I haven't gotten around to brewing this again, but I should. I was quite happy with this beer.

Wee Heavy Kiltlifter Wee Heavy (AG)

This beer doesn't need to spend much more time in primary/secondary than most other beers - 4 weeks or so should be plenty. IBU range as listed in the style guidelines are 17-35, so this falls right about in the middle. The bitterness is barely perceptible.

    NHC 2010, are you entering?

I ended up winning category 16 in the east region with my Grapes of Wrath clone (thanks Brewtopia!). 41.5 average, 47 entries.

    HBT NFL mock draft '10

I made the pick. CBBaron is up.

American Porter Edmund Fitzgerald Clone (AG)

That time line shouldn't be a problem. FWIW - I split my most recent batch of this in half and added bacon in secondary. :D

    HBT NFL mock draft '10

danek is on the clock, but I believe that he's still on vacation. Any ideas for his pick?

    HBT NFL mock draft '10

I went against the grain for the Chiefs, but I'm still in pretty good shape. Right about now is when my mock completely falls apart :D
