    New Wyeast Strains

Do you have a Kolsch recipe, Ed? I see that you brewed an Oktoberfest Ale last year using Kolsch yeast, but have you brewed an actual Kolsch?

How much did your kegerator cost?

I suppose if I had a conversion kit I wouldn't mind measuring, cutting, drilling, etc. I just don't want to be running all over the place trying to find parts.

How much did your kegerator cost?

I recently was out buying a new automatic washer and while I was shopping around I saw at one appliance store a kegerator. (I'm sorry to digress here, but I did spend a few moments there thinking "hmmm... clean clothes.... tap beer/tap beer.... clean clothes... Whoa, what am I thinking. SWMBO...

Barley Crusher- where best to buy?

I think I need to break down and buy a grain mill. I notice that the Barley Crusher is available from Northern Brewer, but also can be ordered directly from the company that makes them. Anyone have any recommendation on what the best way is to buy it?

Relying on the kindness of SEWAGE 3/29

What's his favorite New Glarus brew? I'm sure no one would mind him coming along. Does he cry much? :) Wish I could come. SWMBO has to work Sat. and Sun. early A.M. and I will be helping her.

    Old Cans of Beer

I was looking in my fridge at work this morning and I noticed that there are two cans of Leinie's (I think) in there that have been there for, well, let's say awhile. The supermarket where I bought them has been closed for at least two years I think. So, those cans have been happily sitting in...

    Druck wasn't enough...

No can do. SWMBO is doing homework with our 14 yr. old.

    Druck wasn't enough...

Earlier this evening I was druck. That was fine and should have stayed fine. You'd think that should have been enough, right? Oh, but nooooo. So now I'm baked, too. Oh, well. Could be worse I guess, eh?

Where did Creamed Chipped Beef come from?

Some tips for making good SOS: (I never had SOS at home while growing up. My dad was in the army and would have killed my mom if she ever tried to put that on our table (other no-no's were canned fruit cocktail, or any other diced fuits or vegetables). Anyway, I was surprised when I got a...

    Edwort's Pale??

I've never tried it, but I've been modifying Ed's recipe a bit. This weekend I did a batch with Maris Otter, Munich Malt and Target hops. Modified, my *ss, you say! That's a totally different beer! Maybe, except it still keeps the same basic proportions and should make for a very drinkable...

    New Glarus Brewery- Interesting Read

I found this article today in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=726338 Looks as though NG is pretty successful. I didn't realize they don't sell outside of Wisconsin. They seem to do pretty well, though, in restaurants and stores around Milwaukee...

    Holy boilover, Batman...

I need a bigger brewpot. I was watching my boil religiously for awhile, but got cold and bored and went inside to straighten up the mess I had made in the kitchen mashing and sparging and such. When I went back outside, I found there had been a boilover which had snuffed out my burner. Not much...

    Two 5 gallon coolers?

I just came up with an idea. I wonder if it would work well. I have a 5 gallon cooler with a false bottom for my mash tun and another one for sparge water. I have pretty much given up on fly sparging, though, in favor of batch sparging. I have noticed that the 5 gallon cooler is just barely...

    A new ice age?

At 9 a.m.? Okay, but SWMBO will be pretty pissed at me when she wakes up and finds me drinking homebrew in the morning!

    A new ice age?

Spring is never coming. I'm serious. It's not coming. My father-in-law called yesterday to report that they were having snow in Louisiana. Apparently it snowed enough where he lives to cover the ground with about an inch of nice, white fluffy stuff. It seems that God has decided to send a...

    Dry v. Liquid Yeast

If you've got some Nottingham, make a batch of EdWort's Haus Pale Ale. You will not be disappointed.

    $16.25 at my LHBS...

I've already got the hops, but I bought Maris Otter for my base grain and my total for a slightly modified batch of Ed's Haus Pale was also $16.75 at my LHBS. Once you get all the basic gear together it's amazing how cheap a batch of AG homebrew can be. As for my modified Haus Pale, I've got a...

    Dry v. Liquid Yeast

I've been gradually migrating to dry yeasts. Reasons? 1. Much, much cheaper. 2. I get good results. 3. Easy to use. No need for starters. I still use liquid if there's not really an equivalent dry yeast to use for a recipe. But mostly I'm must happy with dry.

    My first bad batch.

Fertilizer? Hmmm. Did it smell and taste okay when you were fermenting it? Did it look okay (no weird looking stuff floating on top or anything like that)? The only thing I can say is your beer is not that old yet. Put it away in a dark, cool corner for 2 or 3 months and then try it again.

    Brett Favre retires!

Wow. I was really taken aback this morning when I saw the headline on msn.com about Brett Favre retiring. This year everyone pretty much thought it was a sure bet that he would come back next year. That made the contrarian in me say he probably would retire this year. But I still was pretty...
