    Reusing and storing yeast ??

If you store it or it has been sitting as a cake for a while after primary the yeast will go dormant. Make a starter again with it the day before pitching.

    please critique oatmeal stout recipe

I just made an oatmeal stout with 73% base malt and I feel that if you go much lower than this you are losing quit a bit of fermentables.

I want to break onto the AG scene

My first ag system was one keggle and a cooler tun. Gravity feed from keggle through cooler tun, collect in bucket and repour into keggle for boil. I used to set it up on some stairs with good results. Helps to have a buddy to help you lift. Keggles are good, but ideally a sandwiched bottom...

    Am I fermenting too cold?

I have my controller probe duct taped to the side of my fermenter. I have tried using a thermowell, but unless you have a jacketed cooler I dont think its very responsive. So now its duct.tape. I feel as though it takes into account your ambient temp as well as your ferm temp this way. I keep...

    30 gallon mash tun help

A copper manifold works good, with slots made from a hack saw. I would put a spring in the braided hose to keep it from crushing, otherwise it's likely drawing sweet wort at the coupling/ bulkhead.

    Conical, Blinkman vs. Stout Tanks

I think all the fittings are standard tri-clamps. I'm still waiting for my conical from stout tanks. Got the word that i wont be seeing it until the end of August. That means a 5 month wait for me. So maybe take that into consideration too.

    I need an opinion.

If you do two brews in one day you could 'harvest' the water off your wort chiller for your second mash.

    Modular Brew Structure

I direct fire and only burned my mash once, when i inadvertently had 3/4 of my burner clogged with mash schmeg and burned the hell out of a small spot on my mlt. Other than that i recommend that you simply stir like crazy as long as your heating... Your modules sound doable, and i think it...

    Brew kettle valve location

My keggle bulkhead is just above the first weld where the bottom skirt is affixed to the actual vessel. Any lower i think you'll have some problems. A dip tube is key.
  12. Salmonhouse

    I need an opinion.

I sometimes make a 1 gallon starter and cook up 13 gallons of wort on a 15 gallon pot, this gives me 14 gallons in the fermentor, and maybe 13 or so gallons of beer between 3 carboys. In your case, I might fill 6 carboys half way and than add your second batch 24 hrs into ferment. Essentially...

Growing our own hops - Our first Hop Farm

I hope those poles are at least 2 ft the ground. Those hops will be a big time load on your stucture. Maybe some guy wires would help? I second the use of twine, or rather i use steel wire, the twine did not hold to the weight. First year wont show much growth probably. You...

    Dry yeasts

I started with liquid yeast and then i started harvesting and making starters but now im just rehydrating a bunch of nottingham and pitching new each time. For $2/ pack its way cheap and it works very well. Much easier than the hasstle of a starter and probably just as cost effective...

    When to go secondary

Short answer: leave it in primary until you reach your target gravity. Then secondary, bottle or whatever. This might mean you need a wine theif or a turkey baster, but checking your gravity is an necessary part of homebrew so get on with it already.

    Welding Stainless with MIG?

You want either argon gas or an argon/helium mix.

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

Maybe make your dip tube come to a 90 degree elbow and suck off the side of your keggle?
