What gap are you crushing your wheat malt?

I am a BIAB'er and I usually get around 80% eff, The last two Kolsh's I have done have had terrible eff, 63%! I couldn't figure out why until I put the white wheat in my barley crusher today, that is set a .035 and heard the sound of grain passing the gap and hitting the bottom of the bucket...

whats the worst brewing accident you have witnessed or been a part of?

I dropped 6gal carboy of oatmeal chocolate stout that I had aging for 6 months, in the basement! I actually cried, it smelled awesome in the basement for 3 days and then, not so much! I ended up having to cut the bottom off about 30 feet of wall that it ran behind to clean it up!

Blonde Ale Miller Lite (Really Triple Hopped)

I have done this recipe twice with the corn and it was excellent? How much of a difference is it with rice only? One less Thing I have to order online brings this to only $10 for 5gal! Also why does the extract version use different hops? I love the smell and bite of cascades!

Actually batch size is 5.5 gallon beer was done on 02/24/2013 it sat for another couple of weeks after finished. O.G. Is supposed to be. 052 I had a low boiloff that day so I only hit 1.046. So from that production date size and og I need 173ml and 237 billion cells!

Good option for BIAB voile material?

Nothing wrong with using a muslin bag, I used a pillow case once!
  10. christpuncher123

    Just Washed yeast now what?

According to mrmalty the 90ml of 60% viability is half of what I need how do I get to the 237 billion cells I need? And how the hell did the 100 billion from the original smack pack finish the original beer?
  11. christpuncher123

    Just Washed yeast now what?

Yes it has been refrigerated. According to mrmalty, I need 136ml of yeast for slurry. There is an oz in each jar so all three jars together are only 90 ml. That's not enough correct?
  12. christpuncher123

Good option for BIAB voile material?

I get it at Fabricland, whatever is on clearance! For $5 I made 3 bags for my keggle, 30 brews later I am still using the same bag! The material is extra tough because it's pink! Just like a boy named Sue, if you get made fun of enough you become tough!

  14. christpuncher123

    Just Washed yeast now what?

I understand to use the yeast on the bottom, but how much do I need? Do I need a tarter or can I just pitch that yeast?
  15. christpuncher123

    Just Washed yeast now what?

I just did my first yeast wash. I am confused how to re-pitch it. I washed some WLP209 from a Kolsh that I had under pitched. It was my first time using liquid yeast and didn't think I need a starter. My OG. was 1.046 and my FG. after 3 weeks in primary was 1.009, beer tastes great, so...

I think I made Vodka Beer

If you must use a blow off make sure it is lower than your wort so it doesn't siphon.

    sparging BIAB

If you want to rinse your grains, why not drain the wort from the bottom of the kettle and use that liquid? Its like a vorlouf, you will end up with clearer wort. I have been doing it for the last couple of batches, it has reduced the amount of trub considerably. The grain acts as a filter...

I think I made Vodka Beer

Homemade Boilermaker! There is no way to fix this. Why were you using a blow off after fermentation was done? The one piece s shaped air locks are the best for cold crashing. Try the beer It might be drinkable!

Off flavor from keg to bottle?

I think its just that extra bit of sugar you are putting in the bottle. I can also notice a difference between the bottle and the keg if i use sugar to prime in the bottle!
