    Local Brewpub getting screwed...

As it's been said before, the PA laws are kind of screwy. But know this, they would not have gotten as far as they have without clearance from the Borough, and that includes zoning and that area appears to be a mixed use commercial zone, something not at all unusual in some of our older towns...

    Re-using screw top beer bottles

Just opened my last of the screw tops and I don't think I'll be using them again. The carb level was consistently low compared to the pry offs, early on resulting in almost no head at all. I'm also not confident about the thinner glass of the screw tops. Just the carbonation leaks were enough to...

    Does fermcap retard fermentation?

Nice switch, They state Fermcap is silicone based then mention their own product (not Fermcap and not necessarily even similar) and how they discourage it's use in unfiltered beer (Their product). FDA has limits on the amount of this material (their formula?) allowed in food. Then goes on to...

    Bourbon Barrel Old Ale

I hope that was an accidental cross post meant for another forum, and not a drive by rant. I would like to hear more about how Jim Beam works for someone. I was just thinking about Denny's comment that the Bourbon should be subtle and not foreward.

In all hobesty( plz nobovy get mad)

Kiddo, if I found out you lived in my area I would pay you and your parents a visit as an LEO to explain your errors in detail. Be a kid, study the science, chase girls, read some more, and stay clean. Any selling, possessing, giving, consumption by you is against the law and you will not find...

    Quad stuck at 1.046-help!

There are folks here who primary small beers for a month, no need to rush an absolutely huge beer along. Consider your airlock a vent and nothing more. A stable gravity over 3day will tell you when the yeasts have actually stopped working. They can be showing very littly "activity" while working...

5 gallon cooler for Sparge water holder?

Oh, and Ferm-cap of another boil foam reducer allows me to do 6.5gal boils in a 7.5gal pot. So new brew pot money went into my counterflow chiller build and two brew days.

5 gallon cooler for Sparge water holder?

I heat my strike water in my 30qt pot. I used to take out some for my strike water then add more and heat to mash out temp and use an igloo 5gal as a hot liquor tank for fly sparging into my 5gal tun. The Igloo holds temps wonderfully. That way the water is sittiing waiting for use at temp...

    I love bottling

I like bottling and it just makes sense for me. I can have multiple beers bottled and just have a few in the fridge at a time versus an 8 tap kegerator taking up room. And bottling has a kind of Zen aspect to it.

    Re-using screw top beer bottles

OK, I just finished bottling my Shire Brown. The 6 screw tops went easy, sonewhat less backpressure from the capper (Red Baron). I tested one screwing off the fresh cap and it appeared to hold well. After they're carbed up and chilled I'll report back, call it three weeks.

    Re-using screw top beer bottles

I'm bottling on Monday and I have a few screw tops in the Batch 19/Shock Top style. I'll bottle a sixer in the screw tops with my capper and compare them to regular pry offs in a vertical test over say 8-12weeks, opening one every week after a normal carb and conditioning. I can spare a sixer...

co worker gave this to me this morning

My support is gonna depend on how they structure the reform. I'm not sure I want to see teh Gobblers Knob selling BMC on every corner. Plus the way the state has hemmed in distributers sales it could hurt some if they allow sales at every store that could get a license. Is it is now if you want...

    Hot wort input line

What sort of place stocks that kind of tubing?

    Hot wort input line

I just finished up my CF Chiller build but I'm stuck on what type of line or tubing you guys are using to get the wort from the boil pot to the chiller intake. All the flex I've found at Lowes is rated 125f max. I haven't done copper in case it is too prone to bending and crushing the flow, or...

Low OG reading after cold break

    1. Why did you separate the two grain batches? Why not Mash one 8lb lot. 2. What did you use as a mash tun? You may have had some extreme temperature falloff over that 60min. 3. How did you control, or measure your mash temps? 4. How sure are you of the accuracy of your quoted temps? Esp...

    "Batch 19"

Just had one and it brought t' mind a slightly hoppy Yeungling lager. Not bad as I like Yeungling but nothing really distinguishing. Not a bad try really. I might buy the occaisional sixer. Too bad the bottle is a twist off. I'd definately buy a case for decent beer and a really cool bottle.

    Hoppy beers a trend?

It does seem like thats all anyone asks about. Especially the "beer guys". I tend to look on the IPA craze like I do the "real beer" BMC guys. I'll be happy when the chatter levels off. Of course ambers and pales are as hoppy as I tend to go.
