    preservatives?

Why not ask if they can sell you a batch without the preservatives?

Alcohol % in 5 gallon cooler

I frequently hit 5gal OG of 1.072 in my 5gal mash tun. I mash a bit thick with 1.15qt/lb grist. I can fit 13lbs of grain. Stirring is never an issue. I'm functioning at efficiencies of 69-74%. This is very achievable for everyone. I'm currently bottle necked by my boil off rate, but you...

    White Lab Vials - Sterlized

I doubt that the soda preforms that White Labs uses are autoclavable. Sounds like you need some autoclavable jars.

Dry hopping an ipa - limited ingredients!!

If you are just starting out I would dry hop with just Simcoe. Its an amazing aroma hop and you'll know exactly what its like by itself. I'm a big fan of simpler recipes (I've found they turn out more complex): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sSKHzmhrzY

Dry hopping an ipa - limited ingredients!!

Its all about what you are looking to create. Warrior and Simcoe would be great. The Simcoe is a much more aromatic hop than Warrior. So to account for that I would go at least 2:1 Warrior:Simcoe. Or go all Simcoe, its great on its own. What would you have dry hopped with if you had it on...

Anyone used a spiral spray nozzle to vorlauf

I'm no engineer but I don't think you will get that same spray pattern at the pressure from a brew pump.

    Filtering through grain bag

I used my grain bag to strain our hop particles when racking to bottle/keg. I had a persistent infection because of it. I have since dedicated a paint strainer bag for straining use only, and my infection went away. I would highly suggest picking up a $2 paint stainer bag and be sure it never...

    Infected Koelsh?

nope, no way to fix infected beer. If it tastes passable bottle and drink quickly before it becomes undrinkable. If its not passable, dump it. Bleach bomb your equipment or get new equipment.

    Home 6-pack bottler

Having worked with a Meheen bottler, I can tell you getting 6 bottles to index correctly is going to be a big issue. Also, I would be very interested in the force required to cap 6 bottles at once. I'm not sure a hand lever would work. Honestly, I would set my sights on a two head machine...

    long draw

If you haven't already come across this, I think you will need a gas blender. Even without elevation factored I would guess you would be over carbonating with the pressure needed to push the beer.

    Finding Co2 Leaks

Hey All, I thought I would share some techniques I learned to troubleshoot leaks in draft systems. I work at a craft beer bar with 50 taps and had to chase down leaks yesterday. I learned some pretty easy techniques that I think HBT can benefit from. There is a very easy test to see if...

Rethinking My Sanitation Practices (Persistent Infection)

Update: It has been a few months in the bottles for a beer that was bottled with a boiled bag. No signs of infection. It appears that the grain bag as filter was the definitive cause. Like 99% of all homebrew infections mine was caused by an item not getting properly cleaned before contact...

Finished at 1.020 with four different beers with S-04

I've used s-04 extensively and in my results I've found it would consistently(package or repitch) finish out on me at 1.012. What's your mashing schedule? Also, how much yeast are you pitching?

Rethinking My Sanitation Practices (Persistent Infection)

Lets get this thread back on track: Sanitation was my issue. Reusing yeast made my sanitation issue harder to pin point. The only debatable issue with reusing yeast is sanitation. A starter is a form of yeast reuse. White labs and wyeast grow the yeast you use from cultures for every...

Rethinking My Sanitation Practices (Persistent Infection)

Thanks. I'm using a immersion chiller though. It has been going in the boil with 15min left.
