    Headspace affecting krause?

Sorry just to add, i currently have both filled and there were only 4 days between the two brews. The one in the fermonster had an OG of 059 and the big bubbler had an OG of 062, both using wlp001. Both are fermenting at the same temp, one a red ale the other a brown. The fermonster krausen has...

    Headspace affecting krause?

Hi guys, Just a quick query. Im not really worried about it, more just intrigued, but at the moment im fermenting in a 7.5 gallon plastic fermonster and a 6.5 g big bubbler. Even though theres isnt a huge gallon difference, the fermonster has a considerably larger amount of head space than the...

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

Brewed this today and went great. Hit all the numbers pretty much dead on. Had to alter the recipe to bring down the SRM very slightly. Also used MO for the 2 row and subbed crystal for fuggles. Going into the fermenter a beautiful deep red and nice and clear. The Sample tasted amazing too...

    Pure pitch white labs

hey guys, Making my first starter today for my brew on the weekend. My yeast arrived today and its in a packaging I havn’t seen in videos before on how to make staters. Usually its in a small vial but this stuff looks bigger and is in a plastic wrap. Its called pure pitch which im sure most of...

    Iphone into perfect wort....

Coming up to just about 3 weeks in the primary now, i dry hopped with 1.5 oz of citra last week and had a quick sniff whilst i was at it and its smelling amazing. Its ready to bottle, however, have all my bottles tied up with 3 other brews at the moment so just waiting for another 15 bottles to...

    Iphone into perfect wort....

Ok so I continued cooling and pitched the yeast. It was getting late and I really couldn’t bring myself to bring my batch back up to boil and then cool again, plus it was a very hoppy beer.. I didn’t want to change the outcome of the late hop additions. The phone is completey fine.. i have the...

    Iphone into perfect wort....

Hi guys, Im here on my second batch of all grain beer. The whole brew day has gone perfect, not a single error. All numbers hit etc nearly to the tee. I take the pot off the boil and begin cooling with the immersion chiller. I have my phone out as its pitch black out by my hose pipe so im...

    Carbonation volumes for brown porter?

I guess it all depends on your preference on carbonation. I personally like my beers with a nice head, so I'll be more towards the higher end of the scales. I'm a new brewer so my opinion may not really count but I'll be carbing a stout in a week with 2.4 and from what I've drank, they usually...

Could anybody identify what this is please?

Cool thanks. Yeah just meant more in case there were lumps of yeast floating about in the final product. I know it wouldn't have an impact on flavour, just people I give beers out to may be a bit put off by them floating around. Ill rack and bottle as normal :mug:

Could anybody identify what this is please?

Thought that may be the case :D Shall I try and leave it all behind or will it sink when bottled? I always leave a bit at the bottom of the bottle to avoid pouring sediment anyway. Just don't want to lose too much beer to trying to leave this yeast behind, beer is precious! :p

Could anybody identify what this is please?

Hi all, I've had a good search around to see whether anyone has asked this question already but all the posts I've found seem to be describing white lumps on the surface (my lumps are brown)and don't look like what I have. This is an irish red, its been in the primary now for 3 weeks, I used...

My first ever Home Brew! Cheers all!

Hi all, Just popped open my first ever brew and it tastes great. I don’t know wether its just because I made it or wether it genuinely just tastes great but I’m very pleased. Theres a few things that could definitely be improved like clarity, after taste etc but all in all im pleased with my...

Just need a quick hand with BeerSmith settings for the mash

Hi all, Did my first ever all gain batch the other day, turned out well apart from I just missed the water volumes a tad (and my krausen has dropped and airlock activity stopped completely after not even 48 hours, but that's a different story that I'll try ignore :p). So, I'm just tweaking a...

Help me become a beer geek!

Thanks all for the info! I’ll have a read through the judging criteria, think that’ll be a good start. Yeah now i think about it, the US beers i drink do tend to have a much harsher bitterness than our versions here. I guess i’ll just have to drink even more beer than I already do... for...
