    My bung fell thru..

Hey home brewers! Has anyone ever pushed their bung thru the carboy? Well I did that today. Almost panicked. Glad I didn't. I just ran to the hardware store and bought some tubing that fit tight in the carboy. Anyone have any pre fermentation horror stories?

    Brown Ale with Chinook hops

This is my first brown and I just brewed it today. I kept the oats in the recipe just because I love that creamy silky mouthfeel and body flaked oats give off. Ended up mixing up a half oz of nugget and chinook for my FWH. Used 1.8 oz of chinook at 10 mins. Took a taste while taking my gravity...

    Brown Ale with Chinook hops

Your beer sounds great!! My next step in brewing is using some oak chips in an IPA, stout or Porter. Never used any Crystal 150.

    Brown Ale with Chinook hops

Should I cut my aroma hops in half?Maybe an 1oz at 10, cut out the 5 min addition... I'm for sure dry hoping w an oz. I could always save the extra oz of hops for the next brew.

    Brown Ale with Chinook hops

Yea my first time doing a fwh. Had a half oz of nugget left over from another batch a couple months ago, figured I use them up. Also nugget is similar/ has some relation to chinook.

    Brown Ale, kinda dogfishy

Since I'm making this brown at 1.062 i want to keep the ibus down a little. Not trying to re-create dogfish heads iba. Just something similar and sessionable. I will be adding the dark brown sugar at 10 mins. I'm just going to use 1oz of chinook at 10 mins and 1oz at flame out.

    Brown Ale, kinda dogfishy

Hello fellow Brewers! I'm designing a brown ale on the similar side to DogFish Heads Indian Brown Ale. Going lighter on the hops and abv. I want to add some flaked oats to get a smoother mouth feel. I won't be using any Crystal 60 that recipe calls for. Going for a more maltier brown so I...

7 days into fermentation, still bubbling thru the airlock

Yea I usually brew an ale 1.060 or lower. I'm so used to everything being done sooner.

7 days into fermentation, still bubbling thru the airlock

My temp was running around 72-74. It's been really hot out here in the Central Valley of California. I use the cool brewing insulated bag. Throw in some ice packs or frozen 2 litters and change them out once they defrost which is daily. When it's not so hot it will stay around 68-70.

Wow! That was some great info. Makes a lot of sense. Thank you very much for sharing. I'll probably not rack now sense I don't want to lose that co2 blanket. I always thought it was good to rack to secondary to have a cleaner, clearer beer.
