I realize this was almost a year ago but do you recall the outcome? I'm sitting here almost 24 hours into a similar situation. Not a peep yet and the smack pack didn't swell. Normally I wouldn't be worried but I'm heading out of town in a few hours. Hoping to see a little movement before I...

Extreme Frustration; What am I doing wrong?!!

I doubt it's your problem but I switched to dme (from lme) because of a few batches with off flavors. I've been pleased with the outcome.

Extreme Frustration; What am I doing wrong?!!

Sorry if I missed this already but are you using bulk liquid extract by chance?

American Pale Ale Red Chair NWPA clone

It's not bad by any means. Just a little nose hit mostly. Last one I had I decided I would skip it next time but who knows, I might miss it.

    skunky beer

I recently brewed my first blonde and it's got a touch of skunk to it. Fermented in a bucket in the basement.

I'm savoring my last 4 bottles. It's really good. I dry hopped the last 3 days with some but next time I think I'll skip it.

    CO2 in Portland

Do you know if they sell the initial bottle? Edit: They do, I looked it up. Still hoping for a cheaper deal on craigslist.

Will Airgas rent a tank? I'm about ready to start kegging, just lacking the tank. I hate to purchase a bottle if I'm just going to end up swapping it somewhere.

Show us your sculpture or brew rig

Thanks for the reply. I just picked up a cooler and keggle yesterday along with a new pot and several other goodies (thanks to craigslist!) so I'm suddenly "almost" ready to move forward. Looks like you're doing everything by hand and using gravity? I plan on doing the same, no pumps. I...

Your gear looks a lot like what I've got and what I'm aiming for. Are you using a single burner for strike water and then for the boil?

Here it is after 14 days in the bottle. Really good beer, probably my favorite batch to date. Not the best pic, actually pretty clear after 1 day in the fridge. I might as well start version 2.0 tomorrow because these aren't going to last long.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

This one is in the bucket as of yesterday. My 3rd attempt at BIAB. Hit pre-boil numbers on the nose but ended up not boiling off enough and missed my SG by 2 points. Close enough for now but I definitely need to pick up a refractometer. I'm sitting at 69 degrees in the closet so I moved...

    Cleaning bottles?

I was lucky enough to stumble on to a used bottle tree complete with vinator at my local brew shop for $10 before my first batch was ready to bottle. At the time, I didn't realize what a deal and a timesaver it was. I'm happy to say, I've never known any other way. I recently purchased a...

Dry hopping with citra leaves. Should I use a nylon bag or not?

I throw mine right in the Better Bottle then tie a sanitized, nylon bag onto my auto-siphon when racking to bottling bucket.

how to cool wort to yeast pitching temperature?

I have yet to build a chiller. We have a two compartment sink in the kitchen so I submerge my pot in cold water a couple of times (alternating sinks) before finally adding ice to the 3rd or 4th dunk (depending on batch size). I can chill 3 gallons down to pitching temps in about 20 minutes...

American Pale Ale Red Chair NWPA clone

This was my second attempt at all grain, first BIAB and first brew in my new kettle so I don't really have any pointers other than go for it. I just took my last sample, dry hopped a few days ago and I'm ready to bottle. The sample is delicious. My attempt seems to be a little off from the...

American Pale Ale Red Chair NWPA clone

I just racked my 3 gallon BIAB over to secondary after 2 weeks and the sample is delicious. I don't rack to secondary often but wanted to reduce headspace and get it over to a more airtight container for the next 10 days while out of town. I'm pretty excited about this one. Color is very...

BIAB paint strainer bag burned on bottom of kettle.

I have a steamer basket and actually, ours has a removable center shaft. I had it in my hand, almost used it yesterday for my first BIAB. I was concerned that it would snag the bag and that fishing it out would be an issue so I skipped it. Instead I did a lot of stirring and lifting the bag...

BIAB paint strainer bag burned on bottom of kettle.

Is everyone pulling their various racks, false bottoms out after the mash and before the boil?
