    Basement Brewery Walls

are you looking to stud out the wall for insulation purposes? if not, what you have now should be fine. unless you are some type of wild brewer, the walls just don't get that dirty. if you are looking to stud the wall out for insulation purposes, then i would recommend simply drywall with frp...

    Now What?!

it really has more to do with the breaker in the upstream panel. heat is generated as current flows through the breaker which in turn warms the enclosed space that the breaker is contained in (the panel itself). enough heat in the panel and the breakers can be 'tricked' into thinking they are...

Question about main panel/spa panel setup

replacing the existing 60 amp breaker with a 30 amp would be the easiest route, no need to replace any conductors. the 30 amp breaker in the panel provides overcurrent and short circuit protection while the 50 amp breaker in the spa panel will provide gfci protection. and a 'regular' breaker...

What I did for beer today

planned to clean three kegs but once i got into the keezer, realized the barleywine had, like, a pint left so i kicked it. took the opportunity the adjust the beer/gas lines in the keezer, they were a twisted mess. mini disaster with the keg cleaning though. i have a homemade keg cleaner and...

Quick non-brewing electrical question - no better place to ask

how about low-voltage lighting with a transformer? they make transformers (led drivers) that are slim and should fit in the gap between the trim and ceiling. they are rated for nm cable connections as well. nm cable is not intended for use as a cord so you are not going to find a plug rated...

Quick non-brewing electrical question - no better place to ask

that must be a pretty small tray if you can't get a receptacle mounted in there. what is the wire doing there in the first place? can you provide a photo/skecth with some more details of what you are describing? i assume this 12/2 cable is nm. if so, that connector you linked to is not rated...

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

i also dump after crash but really just enough to get all the 'stuff' below the racking port. it is a bit of a guessing game but for 'regular' beer with no dry hopping, i dump a very small amount. some dry hopped monster? i dump a lot more. i do closed transfers so also dump a bit from the...

    Don't Do That.

brewed up an ipa on sunday. i have weighed out hop additions in mason jars for years without issue...until now. i had two ounces of hop pellets in a small (6 oz) jar. hops were from a freshly opened 1 lb bag and were still somewhat clumped together. i go to dump in the boiling wort (15 min...

i've also seems some complaints about the gasket but (maybe) knock on wood, no issues here. i can put it in and shake the lid with the gasket facing down, no issues. if you have issues, contract spike, they have been super responsive/accommodating in my experience.

Spike Conical- observations and best practices

i dump at the end of fermentation, along with most of the dry hops. a bit of a guessing game, i'm just trying to get the level of trub, yeast, hops, etc. below the racking port level. this is so i don't suck all that stuff into the keg when transferring. i could dump all the way down to the...
