Turning your Fermonster into a complete closed transfer system for cheap!

I finally got around to trying this. I'm having trouble getting the NPT joints to seal - even with thread tape. Did you have any issues?

number of 12oz bottles per 5 gallon batch???

You win! That's now the definition of a batch of beer. Congratulations!

number of 12oz bottles per 5 gallon batch???

Sounds more like one opinion. As I said, I've seen sources call a batch what's left in the kettle a batch. It may be a common opinion, but I don't think there's any definitive source that says "normal/typical convention" is what goes into the fermenter is a batch.

number of 12oz bottles per 5 gallon batch???

Really? There's a law that says that?

number of 12oz bottles per 5 gallon batch???

But, it's not beer at that point, is it? It's a batch of wort.

number of 12oz bottles per 5 gallon batch???

Many sources consider "a batch" as what's left in the kettle after the boil, or what goes into the fermenter. The way I see it, "the batch" is the finished packaged product.

I'm so lost. HELLLP! Just upgraded from white buckets to 10+ gallon stainless system...

Nice to see your optimism! Many would be dejected. Edison - “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.”

    Home Brew Application

I'm with others - sooo sick of subscriptions for everything. I use Larry's spreadsheet. It's free. You can tell he's an engineer. It's very detailed. He's been maintaining it for years. He's even got a (nearly 2 hour) video showing how everything's calculated.

    Economical Brewing

Nice sentiment, but I wouldn't agree with a blanket statement like that. If it cost $1M a bottle to produce I don't think anyone would say that the enjoyment of drinking it and sharing it far exceeds the cost. Certainly, it would never cost someone $1M per bottle to produce, but it does point...

    When to measure OG?

I take a sample after cooling the wort after the boil. However, there can be significant material still in suspension then. I'll use that as a tentative OG, then leave the sample in the refrigerator over night to cold crash, and get an accurate OG reading the next morning (after letting it warm...

I'm so lost. HELLLP! Just upgraded from white buckets to 10+ gallon stainless system...

I don't think it would work for your fermenter, but as a tip for others... I have a big 120 qt (I think) cooler. I set it on it's end, and it'll fit my Fermonster, or a bucket, carboy, etc. I use one of those seed starter type heating mats with an Inkbird temp controller. I can pull the drain...

If you wanna chuckle... Read this

I would put a gallon of water in the keg, add 10 psi, or so. Make sure the keg is dry and put it upside down in a bucket and see if water leaks out. Of, course, wouldn't fin a leak at the liquid poppet.

    Passivation?

How fragile is that oxide layer, and what kind of precautions do you need to take to maintain it?

    Cooler Mash Tun

I also use(d) the Coleman Extreme before going BIAB. Looks like same manifold design. I went with 72 qt per YouTuber Beer-N-BBQ by Larry. He measured the 52 qt and found it didn't hold 52 qts. I previously used the 10 Gal HD cooler. After a couple stuck mashes I said "F" this. Much happier...

    Oxidation

I would think that would be minimal, considering it's fighting the positive pressure of the incoming CO2. And, once the Starsan is evacuated, you can let it continue pushing the CO2 into the keg and further purge.
